Need info on Bien Hoa and Da Xanh pumelo
(1/1)
AndrewAZ:
These 2 varieties recently went up for sale kind of near me. I have never tried them. I read up on them and they sound interesting. I have never grown a pumelo because I do not want something insipid.
Let me know if these varieties are delicious or use my space on something else.
70Malibu:
I grow both. I like the Da Xanh pomelo. It tastes good, ate one from a friends tree. My tree is holding 2 large fruits now.
I'm not sure of the Bien Hoa, it might be similar to the white honey pomelo that goes on sale at the markets during Christmas and New Years. Those fruits have no taste, not sweet or anything. I'm hoping the Bien Hoa is more like the taste of Honey pomelo I tasted from a local grower, that was excellent, brix=18. I don't have fruits on my grafted branch yet.
AndrewAZ:
Does the Sa Xanh have any acidity to it?
70Malibu:
Yes, it does. Most citrus has acid taste except for a small handful that may have the least amount of acid like the Valentine, Vaniglia Sanguigno and Cara Cara orange. All the pomelos I have tried have noticeable acid/sour taste but is depends on how much sugar it has to counter the taste of the acid.
