Aphid infestation??
« on: August 06, 2023, 03:15:35 PM »
Trying to help my father with some of his fruit trees. I'm a complete newb when it comes to gardening but from what I've gathered, this seems to be an aphid infestation.. What's the best way to combat this? They seem to all be attacking the tips of new growth. I've thought about just cutting and disposing of all the tips with the infestation but I figure that will probably stunt growth fo a bit. Would it be best to spray with an incecticide?

Most insecticides kill them. Even soapy water will kill them. If you use soap, it may take repeat applications.

Neem oil, horticultural oil, or dish soap will work on aphids, whichever you use of those read the directions on the mixing ratio and don't spray the plants when the sun is out or you will fry the leaves. Spray early in the morning or late in the evening before the sun is shining at its fullest,

My yard had an infestation around May.
I waited out for the lady bugs and their kids to wipe out the aphids.
Clean now.

Rain or a hard blast with the hose will knock out a lot but not all. Also can squish them with your finger. I spray some leaves if it's bad but avoid spraying leaves with lady bugs on them.
