second bloom on Gold Nugget mandarin
« on: September 27, 2023, 10:38:21 AM »
Here in San Diego I have a gold nugget mandarin that is covered in golf ball size green fruit (normal), and the tree has been blooming again here in August and September. I have new small pea size fruits and it continues flower on new growth flushes. Is this normal for a Gold Nugget? My fruits have typically been ripe in March through May.

Coincidentally my juvenile Shasta Gold and Tahoe Gold mandarins are also flowering on new growth flushes.

Maybe it's the weird weather year for Southern California?

The bloom on your is called an off season bloom.  Often is caused by some type of earlier stress to the tree or by late  pruning
