Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fruit tree suggestions
« on: Today at 02:24:52 PM »
Hi fellow growers,
I'm interested in growing tropical fruit trees that can be kept reasonably small in pots, can take a little bit of cold, and produce sweet fruits that are bigger than berry size.
Being in New York City, my backyard grow space is limited so everything has to be potted and be able to produce in containers. I have a greenhouse but with the recent surge in energy cost, I try to keep temps between 36F to 40F. And as a final requirement, the fruit has to be at least golf ball size and of sweet/good eating quality. Here's what I have came up with:
* guava
* carambola
* longan
* white sapote
* loquat
* che
* paw paw/annonas
* citrus
* mango
* persimmon
* yangmei
* garcinias - I find even Russell's Sweet can survive my environment
* jaboticaba
* avocado
* eugenias - I realized some produce fruits that are too small for me to care for
Please expand on this list if you have suggestions. Thanks.
