Hey everyone. I attempted to germinate the seeds after a week of eating the fruits. I was able to germinate 19 out of 20 Canistel seeds in 1 week.
Results in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPYBAeqA7jI

Step by Step:

1. Find something to crack open the seed shell. You can use a hammer too but dont smash too hard. The seed inside the shell can easily cracked

2. Wash the seeds and then wrap it damp paper towel. Put it in a zip lock bag.

3. Keep your seeds in warm dark place. Keep temperature above 80F

4. Check the seeds after a week

And that's it. This one is very simple.

Happy growing :D

Hello, I made a step by step guide on how to germinate the stubborn reticulata seeds. I have successfully germinated these seeds in 2-3 weeks.
I have seeds in various stage to make this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwyluZh09SA

Step by step:
1. Soak your seeds in clean water for 1-2 day

2. Put your seeds in clean damp paper towel. Keep it in warm dark place. Temperature must be above 85F. I keep mine in the drawer underneath the heat mat to keep it warm.
Do not go over 98F.

3. If your seeds do not show sign to germinate after a week or two. You can trim the tip of the seed carefully. Exposing the white seed inside. Do not cut off any part of the white seed.

4. After trimming, soak the seeds in clean water again for 1-2 hours. Do not soak over night or it could rot.

5. Put the seeds back into the clean damp paper towel. Keep it in warm dark place above 85F. You could see sign of germination as early as 2 days.

Important note: Temperature must be above 85 F or your seeds could get moldy. Do not soak over night after trimming.

I germinated 10 out of 12 seeds this way. I know it is a small sample but I think it work well. Let me know if it work for you as well. :D

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Stubborn banana
« on: November 16, 2024, 01:23:47 PM »
I planted lychee in top of the banana trees spot.  I had removed all the pup. I decided to used the banana trees that I cut down as compost at the bottom of the 3 feet deep hole. They were cut up to cubes which I thought there no chance of surviving. Every thing was fine for months until this show up. I've been pulling out the top leaf every day hoping it would give up and die peacefully. I'm too afraid to dig it out and risk hurting my Lychee roots. What should I do now?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / First paw paw tasting experience
« on: October 18, 2024, 06:18:46 PM »
Hey everyone, want to share my first experience eating paw paw fruit. I bought it from Etsy seller. Shipped from NY. It was $25 for only 1 lb but it worth the experience in my opinion.

The fruit doesn't have any smell and it felt soft. After I cut it in half, I could smell a mix of mango, pineapple, cherimoya scent. The seeds was easy to pick off with the plastic spoon I used. I took a bite and my first thought was flan mix with pudding. It's sweet, creamy, and melt in your mouth. The taste is like cherimoya mix with mango. As I get closer to the skin the cherimoya smell gets stronger. There were no grainy texture. It was easy to scoop too. I could scoop all the way to the skin with out a mess. There are 5 big seeds. I try a bite of the skin too and it was still very sweet from the little meat it had left but there a green smell after taste which I'm not a fan of.

So over all. This fruit is way beyond my expectations. I can't wait to eat the other one after I refrigerated it and try to cold.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / WTB Pond apple seeds
« on: October 02, 2024, 11:06:38 PM »
Looking to start my Anona collection journey so I'll start with growing rootstocks lol. I heard it's more cold tolerant? Any one selling?

Hello every one. I'm very clueless about citrus trees. I don't know if I should get rid of it or keep it. It was already there when I got the house but it look like the rootstock took over a long time ago.

The base of the tree have flaky skin peeling of upon touching which I'm not sure if that's some kind of disease or it was from animals chewing on it. The leaves have inconsistent color. Some part have light small green leaves. Some part have big green leaves. And the trunk is loaded with this fussy growth. I appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Atemoya recommendations?
« on: September 24, 2024, 03:14:14 PM »
Hello everyone. I don't have a lot of experience eating sugar apples or atemoya but now that I fall in love with one, I want to get a pair of trees of my own.

I had eaten some sugar apples but not often. My first atemoya experience was geffner, I wasn't impressed. This year in California, I had  African pride(I'm not sure if #1or#2 variety)for the first time and I love it so much. It was meaty and there wasn't any grainy texture near the skin.

Now I'm wondering which other atemoya should I grow along side the African pride for pollinations? I like some things without the grainy texture. My space is limited so it will be grown in 15 gallons pot.

Thanks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Are these Achacha?
« on: September 19, 2024, 10:25:45 AM »
Hello, I bought these two Achacha seedlings last year off eBay (probably not the brightest decision but it was cheap)

I planted them this year and the more they grew the more I can tell the difference. As you can see one have shorter leaves. The other one have longer leaves and it's pink before it turn green.

So I'm wondering if they are even Achacha? Did I get scammed? I'm sorry if this is the wrong place but I don't know where to ask

Edit: I don't know why I can not reply in the forum. It keep giving me error or endless spinning so I'll reply through this edit.

@gozp ty for identifying them. So they're most likely the lemon drop Garcinia? I never try one but I heard they're good too. I guess I won't be digging them out after all.
Do you know why they have different leaves tho? Is it because of male and female?

@brian I didn't think they were either but maybe it was mislabeled on their part. I think it's better to look for the grafted ones any way since they can take forever to fruits
