Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Avocado Rootstock -Purchase

We are interested in the rootstock plant, not a grafted avocado tree on the rootstocks they mention in your link.

Brokaw seemed to say on their website that they sell the rootstock plant, that is what I'm looking for.

Seeds sales will end this Friday.

5
Looks like we already have the first winner, either Rob or Marc will be the winner for the team that wins the Super Bowl.

6
When I have time, I will take some photos of my new AD#3 guava plant, it is approach grafted. I don't want to touch the tape on the graft since it is only 3 months old.

Sounds good. Hope there is someone there you can get on good terms and sell you the rootstocks. I'm also going to check with our CRFG members to see if anyone has a contact. The past director of the avo research in Irvine should know maybe, I'll ask.

14
ok, all sold now.

I'll still add some photos of the trees later when I have time.

15
4 have been spoken for, so only 3 left for sale.

16
Here's the germinated seeds.

17
I will post a few photos of what they look like before you order it.

Also, should have some interesting photos of seedlings from my McDill fruit (CSUF) and Yellow (c.tetrameria) fruit (CSUF) for a good comparison of what these rootstock trees will look like in 7yrs. The McDill seedlings will grow over 18ft and the yellow sapote tree will grow to about 11ft tops. Trunk diameter of the McDill is about 2ft, yellow sapote about 4".

Ripoff, I will see what I can do. If they say the same thing then I'll need to find some other source. I do have a contact with a citrus grower so he may be able to pull some strings for me with the avocado rootstock source.

That's great to hear. Now if you can get it to grow to 3" tall then you did it.

barath, I did notice the leaves look different. But from one qinmi#9 to another, they also looked different so I wonder if it is just the age.

I'll try to find a photo showing the leaves of the mature vine I posted with all those fruits, they were real, tasted excellent. My vine is small so when I have time this week, will take photos of its leaves and post. I also bought a seedling qinmi#9 plant and it had different leaves from the mature vine.

21
I have some extra yellow sapote (c. tetrameria) seeds that have germinated in a bag, it is about 3 months old for sale.

Cost would be $10 each plus $11 shipping. If anyone is interested, send me a message. The fruit is from either the CT#7 or the yellow sapote fruit from my seedling tree or CSUF yellow sapote fruit.

FYI, concerning grafting guavas. As Brad mentioned in the earlier post he is correct. All the grafted small guava plants I have been purchasing (Ruby Seedless, DA#3, etc) are not grafted, instead it is approach grafted. The guy who seems to know a lot of this said to me it takes 3 months for the approach graft to work, then he cuts off the good scion branch from the mother tree and you get a nice little approach grafted plant in a 1 gallon pot for $200 each.

He gave me a discount, only $150, so I had to buy two. I noticed the same method is used on all the rare longan plants I have purchased (Red longan), graft is approach graft method.

If it didn't look so ugly on the tree, I would do many approach grafts on that Sylvia tree. I will need to ask the owner if I can try a few way up high on the tree so they don't see it much.
