Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: S> Annona scions 2025
« on: February 09, 2025, 07:23:05 PM »
Go buy fruits at any market, then grow out the seeds, they will be ready to use for grafting in 1 year. Each fruit should have 15-20 seeds in it.
I just bought 4 fruits just for the seeds to grow out.
Can't find any cherimoya around my area unfortunately. I do see sugar apple some time. I have a few sugar apple seedlings but they are not looking too good. I don't think they like the windy weather here

Thank you! I tried numerous times to germinate Annona seeds and failed. I had them at 80F, they would mold or sprout and die. Now I know why. Thanks again!
Best of luck!
I have the same problem with Atemoya seeds. I got 4 free lisa seeds from some one here. 3 of them rotted. I'm not sure if it because I soak them for 2 days like the Reticulata seeds.
1 of them geminated but slowly rot away. I couldn't figure out what went wrong. I don't have any more seeds to test it out. It was very finicky

You really gonna chain saw that pretty looking tree? Gasp!

16
Hey everyone. I attempted to germinate the seeds after a week of eating the fruits. I was able to germinate 19 out of 20 Canistel seeds in 1 week.
Results in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPYBAeqA7jI

Step by Step:

1. Find something to crack open the seed shell. You can use a hammer too but dont smash too hard. The seed inside the shell can easily cracked

2. Wash the seeds and then wrap it damp paper towel. Put it in a zip lock bag.

3. Keep your seeds in warm dark place. Keep temperature above 80F

4. Check the seeds after a week

And that's it. This one is very simple.

Happy growing :D

17
Thank you so much for this. I will try it
Please try a small bash of seeds first. I dont want you to lose it all if something went wrong.
Best of luck!  :D

Example of when you trimmed the seed too far
I trimmed this seed since December of 2024. This is the latest picture of the seed taken just now. It been 7 weeks.

As you can see, the seed doesn't rot. It also doesn't germinate. I come to conclusion that I cut it too far. The root tip is no longer there so it cannot Germinate. So be very careful not to cut the white tip off

19
Example of when the temperature was too high.
This seed was fine when I trimmed it but I soak it over night. The temperature also got over 100F for one night when I put it back into the paper towel. For a 3 weeks this seed kept getting moldy at the tip so I decided to cracked it in half to see what went wrong.

As you can see. The inside still look white and pretty but the flesh was soft like mash potato instead of hard seed. I come to conclusion that the seed is cook that's why the tip of the seed kept getting moldy. It was slowly rotting.

Hello, I made a step by step guide on how to germinate the stubborn reticulata seeds. I have successfully germinated these seeds in 2-3 weeks.
I have seeds in various stage to make this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwyluZh09SA

Step by step:
1. Soak your seeds in clean water for 1-2 day

2. Put your seeds in clean damp paper towel. Keep it in warm dark place. Temperature must be above 85F. I keep mine in the drawer underneath the heat mat to keep it warm.
Do not go over 98F.

3. If your seeds do not show sign to germinate after a week or two. You can trim the tip of the seed carefully. Exposing the white seed inside. Do not cut off any part of the white seed.

4. After trimming, soak the seeds in clean water again for 1-2 hours. Do not soak over night or it could rot.

5. Put the seeds back into the clean damp paper towel. Keep it in warm dark place above 85F. You could see sign of germination as early as 2 days.

Important note: Temperature must be above 85 F or your seeds could get moldy. Do not soak over night after trimming.

I germinated 10 out of 12 seeds this way. I know it is a small sample but I think it work well. Let me know if it work for you as well. :D

Update February 8th
This is 2 days after I trimmed Lemon Reticulata on the video. You can see the root already pushing out

Update February 9
Here is Anise 3 days after the video. Little root poking out now
