Very nice looking cuke /cocktail avocado. The tree may have had a few of those, but the Seedless Krueger avocado tree has 100% seedless fruits, big difference.

But I do hear that every avocado tree will randomly have a few cukes growing, even the Hass avocado or any other varieties. How did you like the taste of the fruit, any different than the normal size fruits from that tree?

Yup, this tree is in Lake Forest, the other larger tree my friend grows is in Fullerton and that tree is taller.

4
Yeah, need to see photos. How large is the rootstock fruit, is it as large as an orange or larger? If it is, then it's a macrophylla.

I'm going to the house again this weekend so I will have fresh cuttings for Monday shipment. Not shipping after Monday since they need to be fresh (2-3 day shipment).

Anyone who wants to buy it, send me a message before Monday. These cuttings don't keep that long without refrigerating them and I don't have space to put it there.

These are all grafted branches so too early to see how much they produce, etc. It would need to be 2-3 years after grafting.

Still have some cuttings, they are starting to bud out now. I better plant them this weekend.

Got my order, excellent scions, thanks Mark.

Wow, what a deal, those grafted Redland look good.

I also noticed here in SoCal the Smathers grows well and fruits early and lots. My scions were from Sam.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Golden Pomelo - Anyone Growing It?
« on: March 20, 2025, 03:06:13 AM »
ok, thanks. I didn't want to spend 2yrs after grafting it to find out it is average tasting. I got rid of all those varieties. I have been collecting citrus for over 30 yrs now and have about every single favorite tasting I need (except this Golden Pomelo), got the rest.

Bill, I just wanted to say THANK YOU, great job again.

These plants seem to be the best ones so far that I ordered here from the group buys.

Lot of hard work, so thanks for doing this for our TFF members, we appreciate your effort to get it for us.

Nice, I only have one tree that shows any new buds growing like that.

This is a place holder for some neat photos I will post here later tonight, just took them.

I have taken some comparison photos of the following so you can see the size, shape, and in some cases the brix readings I did.
- Crispy Honey, my last 2 fruits
- Nagami kumquat
- Nagami kumquat seedling, has larger fruits
- Nagami kumquat, weird one with mini size fruits
- Seedless Nordmann Nagami kumquat

Could not show the Meiwa, very low fruit productions on my trees and they ripen much earlier. I tried to ask anyone else who grows kumquat but no one had fruits now.

I still have one grafted scion that is almost 2 years now, still no buds but the scion is green so I will leave it alone.

So Adam, can you tell me what color your Peluche flesh is ?  Is it orange, yellow or white flesh most of the time. I have many sources of your Peluche and everyone is orange or yellow colored flesh.

I was thinking of adding the New Zealand grapefruit but I doubt it will be sweeter than Valentine, Cocktail, or this Golden pomelo.

If it is then let me know and I can add it to my tree. If you get a ripe fruit, please take a brix reading and I can compare your number to all my citrus I have that I have recorded the brix when I remember to take it.

I don't know either but it looks like a hybrid of a pomelo and mandarin as some mentioned above. The Cocktail grapefruit and Valentine fall into this category, not full grapefruit or full pomelo. The Cocktail (Mandalo) hybrid pomelo is a cross of a pomelo and mandarin. It has soft skin, easy to peel, this one reminds me of Cocktail but the Cocktail has some tartness that everyone notices, this Golden does not have any tartness to me. The Valentine pomelo hybrid is also a pomelo x mandarin [cross of ‘Siamese Sweet’ pummelo x ( ‘Ruby’ blood orange x 'Dancy' mandarin)]. It has easy to peel skin as well, and it has no sour/tart taste, but this Golden pomelo seems to taste sweeter to me. I should look to see if I have any brix reading data on the Valentine and Cocktail fruits since both of my trees are very old and large with lots of fruits (over now).

Kaaps, how can you distinguish a Sabra from looking at the bark?

I'm new to Jabo so don't know anything about the different varieties, just the small plants I bought from Kevin.

Robert, thanks for your taste test feedback. Yes, it is different than other Golden Grapefruit I have tasted. This one is called the Golden Pomelo but it must be some time of hybrid, too small for a pomelo and the individual fruit sack is not like a pomelo.

I agree with Brian's comments. If the scion is green, it is alive, leave it alone. I had some citrus grafts take up to 2 years before any new buds pushed out. I graft a lot of citrus scions and it is normal for some grafts to take up to one year before showing any buds.

I agree with Peep, never use the scions with new flush, not a good idea. Only if it was a rare scion and you had no other to choose from.

I do both scions with growth buds bulging, or not, as long as it has leaf nodes (cut off leaves before use) then it will be fine for grafting.
