News of Pineapple Guava Expert Mark Albert’s Passing
« on: February 13, 2023, 05:10:37 PM »
Yesterday I read that the expert of pineapple guava (feijoa) passed away several days ago.  Sad news and a huge loss to the tropical fruit community.  Has anyone else seen the same news?

Thank you for sharing and condolences to all who knew him.
This was my 1st introduction to his work. This past season was my tree’s 1st crop, and what a delicious fruit! I will keep an eye out for his varieties if they became more available!

Mark shared "Massida" Loquat , a selection he found in San Jose, as well.
I have his "Albert's Supreme" Feijoa grafted, and some others with lost tags.
Thanks for your contributions and observations Mark.

Feijoas have become one of my favorite fruits to grow.  Just grafted Albert's Supreme and Abbadabba last month.  Appreciate all his efforts in breeding.

Fruitwood nursery offers some of his fejoia seedlings and other selections including his Niki's Purple Prickly Pear and Blue Ribbon Japanese Plum.

Here is a great interview in his garden.

Sad news indeed. My condolences to all who knew him. My first successful graft was his Supreme Feijoa on a Nazemetz.

I had great interactions with Mark.  I'm sad that he's gone, his efforts and generosity where unparalleled.

I would really like to write an article about his work. Does anyone have contact info about family, etc.?

He did a lot for Feijoa improvement.

Sad news indeed, and you're right about how great his contribution was, we can't ignore it, one always has to move on, and we need to carry on in their spirit to move on with our lives.
