Arbequina olive in zone 7b?
« on: October 19, 2023, 11:03:01 PM »
Can this grow here and produce well? I'm near philly in zone 7b. If not is there a better variety I should try?

I like the idea except it gets too cold in 7b for olives. You may get lucky a few years, but eventually it will die without protection.
You could keep it as a potted plant and bring it into the garage when it goes below 20f.
You could also keep it outside in ground and protect it when there are cold snaps. I left mine outside and it made it on year, another year it died back to the base, and then last year it died to the cold.
They will fruit in a pot.

Thank you for your answer. It very rarely gets below 20 here. My father has wanted one and told me some mature olive trees grew around here. Was it a different variety or a look-alike?

I live in 7b and decided on Arbosana olives as they are dwarfing and relatively cold hardy and I can keep in a pot until I assess whether I want more olive trees and if it will survive in the ground here.
