Garcinia dulcís varieties
« on: April 25, 2024, 10:13:02 AM »
Hi everyone
I want to ask if some one familiar with garcinia dulcis?
So I tried 3 different garcinia dulcis 1) is really sweet, fruit is round, almost perfect round, looks like Russell’s sweet.
2) fruit is oval, sweet to sour, more sweet than sour, tree was hermi, but looks same as first.
3) fruit with nipple looks like canistel, more sour than sweet, or sour.
Did I am right if they are all dulcis

This species native range stretches from the Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal to Cape York in Australia and is widespread through Indonesia and New Guinea. There are probably dozens of forms and I wouldn't b surprised if G xanthochymus was found to be ones of its varieties. Foliage, tree shape, new growth and fruit appearance are all variable.

I've got an order placed for some here in Thailand.  I've never tried them before.

I don’t have photos, my hard drive don’t make it.
All this garcinia dulcís I seen in Borneo, during my trip.
Now I just trying to get some seeds, but I find direction for sweet one, the problem in Indonesia they cultivated all of them for different use, the sour they use for cooking and to mix to curry and tamarind paste, also as lemon in salad, souses for rice. Sweet out of hand and deserts

Also during this trip I realize what they have 4 different varieties of garcinia prainiana/ cherapu, and they are all different in flavor, color of flash and one has really translucent flash.
But now when you outside of Indonesia and you trying to deal with persons who try just to sell you plant material and they  are don’t care what you are getting, it’s really difficult to get what you want because it’s a lot of fraud and scams, and all and everything just about moneys. When last time I visit Indonesia, I was not think I will move to panama and start my project, I was only doing job with bees and do research on meliponas.
Only solution grab seeds when you in place. Maybe some one from Borneo can help. I want some cherapu seeds with translucent flash))))¿.

Here on place the  person from who I get some help and person who knows what he talking about are Peter from Finca la isla.

there is a huge amount of variation just depending on when you pick garcinias. some take a month after they initally ripen to be fully ripe and change from yellow to orange when they are (lemon drop + achacha). even fully yellow achacha are not ripe and will be sour for about a month after that point. so if you buy from 4 different sources you could easily be mistaken for them being different variants when they are just in different stages of ripeness.

There is a large fruited and a standard prainiana which are sweet and I didn't know about the translucent flesh type. Mine have ripening fruit right now.
