Australian Mango ID.
« on: February 04, 2025, 01:34:25 AM »

Just wondering if anyone can give me an I’d on these mangos I just picked up at our local IGA in south east Queensland. I’ve pictured them between one of my KP’s and one of my Maha Chanok’s. Seed is thin like the Maha, but the fruit itself is probably twice the size overall. I don’t think they’re as tasty as my Maha, but they are from the shop, so I never expect them to be as great as home grown. Shop was selling them as Calypso😂😂.  Stubbie holder for size comparison 👍

Could it be Palmer?

Just had a look and definitely not Palmer.
It’s basically looks like a really big, fat Maha Chanok. But I’ve been growing my Maha for a few years now and I haven’t had one this big, and the flavour is different. Got the same shape as Maha and NDM🤷🏻‍♂️

It looks very similar to Valencia Pride, but I don't know if that variety is available in AU.

Valencia Pride is in Australia but I'm not sure how commonly it is grown commercially.

Now that I’ve had a good search, I would say that it could possibly be Valencia Pride. And it probably doesn’t need to be grown commercially to end up at our local IGA, as they do have a tendency to support locally grown produce from small scale/ private operations. So it’s quite possible that someone has grown a few trees and sold the fruit privately. I’ll grow the seeds out to see if they are mono, and that will probably convince me that it’s VP.
Thanks for the info👍👍

Looks like a pearl to me and like many brightly coloured types the taste is less than the promise.
