Austrailian blood lime question
« on: November 21, 2021, 04:15:56 PM »
Does anyone know if austrailian blood lime is resistant to citrus greening? Seeing as it's half finger lime genetics I would imagine so.. but they are a bit pricey and I'm curious if anyone knows the answer before I commit to buying one. Thanks

I read online many months ago about treating citrus greening problem with Aussie lime of some kind.
Would be great if true.

What do you mean? Like using it as a root stock? Do you think it can take the cold? How tropical are the blood limes? Now I want one even more.

I believe that that the "blood lime" is the same as the "red fingerlime" a...  I haven't tried it myself.  I have a productive green finger lime, though.

I don't remember reading anything about HLB resistance of finger limes, not sure.

They are actually pretty good and not a finger lime although one of its parents is, and are more egg shape.

You should put this post in the citrus discussion and you might get more response. Here's the post about the HLB and finger lime.

I believe that that the "blood lime" is the same as the "red fingerlime" and is not really red, and not reported to taste very good.  I haven't tried it myself.  I have a productive green finger lime, though.

They're a cross of the rangpur lime or mandarin lime with a red finger lime. Logees has a video of it on YouTube.

I want one of these so bad! I have rangpur lime and finger limes and all I do is talk to my wife about crossing the two to see if I can get something similar haha

Edit: I wonder if Logees would sell scions of it? It might be worth it to ask.

whoa Logee is listing it at $125 now?  I swear I saw it way cheaper in their catalogs they send me but I can't find one right now.  The internet archive wayback machine shows them selling it for $40 at one point.  Maybe they discovered they have no competition?

I would ask if demand has outstripped supply, but Logee's site shows they have 78 in stock. Maybe they have had to give their grafters raises to keep them happy? Who knows? Logee's has been big with the Martha Stewart crowd of people with too much money and who are too status conscious. There could be some new recipe that just has to have Australian blood limes in it.

Maybe Madison Citrus will start offering Australian blood lime. They have great prices, frankly prices that are too good. I have to stay away from that site, since I have too many plants as it is.

Logees had them mislabeled as red finger limes a few years ago and priced at $40. I have been growing one for three years, no fruit yet. One Green World is out of stock, but selling for $40.
