Hello all!
Basically I'm wondering if kumquat can be used as a rootstock for other citrus types and what problems or benefits could come from that? I can't find a lot of info off google
Froom my limited knowledge poncirus seems to be the go-to for mass compatibility so if compatibility is an issue could PT be can intergraft?

Why not make PT the only graft, instead using Kumquat as first graft and then PT as the interstock?

Mostly asking if kumquats could serve as multi-grafted trees partly out of curiosity and also as someone who lives in a colder environment / small living space.

Laaz on this forum has mentioned that 1) kumquats do well on their own roots despite "common knowledge" saying they don't and 2) fukushu kumquat makes a great rootstock (I don't know the details of this)
Anyway, because I have a surplus of kumquats and a shortage of flying dragon, I am growing out some fukushu seeds to try this.

Marumi kumquat makes excellent rootstock and is more dwarfing than FD. I have none though

So what I'm a little shockingly gathering from these two or three anecdotes are that kumquats are or can be good rootstock but are underutilized? ;D
Marumi in particular is interesting to me given its a manageable size and hardiness, hopefully meiwa would function similarly

I thought marumi was listed as being not true from seed?
Also, more dwarfing than FD would be a big surprise to me... do you have any links or books you can point me to with more information about this?
I have a fruiting marumi right now I have been eating fruit from for weeks. It appears nearly identical to Fukushu, btw, except that Fukushu has a more pronounced "finger dimple" at the bottom of the fruit, and I've read fukushu is true to seed while marumi is not.

I never said they make good rootstock, I've never tried them as rootstock. I have a changshu I grew from seed that is over 25 ft tall & produces hundreds of fruit every year & never had a issue...

oh, sorry, I must have misremembered
