Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Duguetia Seeds Sprouted!!!
« on: July 28, 2021, 12:17:57 PM »
Very nice! What type of Dugetia are you growing?
Duguetias are notoriously difficult to germinate and just as tough to grow. They are are very very slow growing from my experience so far. I have two Phaeoclados that germinated 2 months ago and it just started cracking the seed coat and pushing the cotyledon. My Marcgraviana that germinated at the same time is STILL in tap root growth. There is very little known about how to grow these guys, but please share any successes.

This came out at the perfect time. Thanks Oscar. We are heading to Maui for five days and then the big island for 5 days leaving on Monday. Is there anything not on the list that I should visit? Anything good in season I should be looking for on my farmer market visits?

I have a cutting I could spare. Original is from Spaugh and doing well. Pm if interested.

I am collecting Campomanesia and have a few, but none that are flowering yet. I haven't heard of anyone in the US getting fruit yet.. sorta. I know Oscar has a phae tree producing in Hawaii and Joe Hewitt is starting to get fruit. Everyone is still waiting on taste reports though. A friend had a guazimifolio fruit but a rat got it before he could share a taste report. He did mention that is has a wonderful aromoa. My Brazilian friends love them and is why I started collecting them and say the smell is unique and intoxicating. The fruit are good to excellent depending on your liking.

Here is my update
AnHai 1 flushing above and below graft (verified new white root growth)

An Hai 2 flushing above graft

Biqi 1. Dead above graft. New sucker and buds

Biqi 2 woohoo. Just noticed new buds above graft line!

Black peak 1 budding below graft hope that doesn’t mean that above is dead although this one doesn’t look good above graft.

The others still look dormant but green wood so I am holding out hope.

Neglect and patience seems to be the key. My one Biqi is pushing out the rootstock and I have a sucker I’m gonna let grow out. This Biqi is dead above the graft
Line so hoping for something yummy.

Or text him on WhatsApp. His number is posted in his bio and responds.

Thanks! Here’s a picture of the green wood. Not very big but holding on! The other pic is my other An hai. It’s starting to bud but not checking roots. All my others are green but look dormant. Having roots show gives me hope.

Happy yangmei dad today. Up potted one An Hai that is green wood but no buds swelling and just green wood. When I up potted I saw Beautiful white roots forming and growing. My other An Hai is swelling with buds.

In the same situation. Haha. I’m jealous of simons growth but from fangs post it seems like these guys need a long time to heal. None of mine were fortunate enough to have white root hairs or as many branched as simons so I’m keeping mine wrapped in wax tape and going with the hope and pray method.

All of my trees are still showing green wood including my two dongkui but they look pretty much the same as i got them. Only one of my  An Hai is showing green buds. I just moved them to 75% shade from full shade and hoping to see a little spark.

I've been searching for a grafted one for awhile, if anyone knows of any let me know!

Give me some time

How much time?  About the same time needed to get the campos ready? What type of Campo is it?

Lol can he ship to California? Yup. He has a direct pipeline from his backyard to mine. Excellent plants and highly recommend. How are those campos holding up?

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: ISO purple mangosteen seeds

Hey Greg,

I just ordered and received 5 purple mangosteens from Oscar at Fruit Lovers. I looked today and it looks like he is on a small break, but he had seeds for sale.

If you are only looking for one or two seeds I could share.

So excited to get a chance to grow these. I really enjoyed meeting all of you and talking nerdy plant stuff. I am a big believer in Gary matsuoko from Laguna hills nursery and going to try and use his potting mix to get these yangmei going. I am hoping to give the frankia already living in the roots the best chance and go with a sterile growing medium and feeds
Nutrients from top down. Really interested to hear of everyone’s successes!

I'd like to buy 25 seeds from you when they are available and try my luck. I've been following your posts and plan to use peatmoss and rain water. I hope I can get 1 of the 25 to make it. Thanks so much.

Sulfur is not an anti fungal. Sulfur is essential to ALL life and forms important amino acids which makes up proteins.

Why I am switching to fabric pots and the best growing medium for vegetables and berries. STOP USING STORE BOUGHT POTTING SOIL!

I'm an teacher/engineer/scientist and trying to share science based information. I am really interested in challenging the science behind my theory. Is it easy to follow and understand? Feel free to question me and comment. Looking for honest feedback, feel free to share the link.

Not yet, still working on video skills... like I should have gone landscape view. The backyard is where all the real fun stuff is.
Also wanted to  bump your banana plants.
Highly recommend Bills plants and his bananas if you are lucky to buy a plant from him and he has some ripe ones available. That Raja Puri was a family favorite.
