ďAre most reticulataís self pollinating?Ē
BAB, thanks for the info. Iíve been to that place a few times. To answer your ? above, I ďpartlyĒ hand pollinate my two reticulata. I stopped hand pollinate them after I found several nitidulid beetles mixed in with the pollen while collecting it. I donít know whether the rotten peaches on the ground nearby are helping with this or not.

CHN90 I learned about those beetles recently but Iím not sure if we have many in San Antonio. Though we could. Iíll plan on hand pollinating until I confirm we have them. And TY for info.

Just an obvious question which is sometimes overlooked....does it have a graft line? The newer pics confirm it isnít a cherilata, nor an atemoya.....  90% sure itís reticulata though could be the temoylata.

-joe

😅 so yea thereís no graft line so yep you are right Joe. Since I was first told atemoya I ignored the obvious. Thank you.

All good, if you can graft reticulata makes great rootstock for atemoya 👍 .

Just curious which atemoya were you hoping it to be?  I have a few diff ones going that I bought scions from guys on here most are grafted to reticulata some on soursop.

-Joe

Lol, Joe Iím a bit impatient so was hoping Geffner but figured quickly that wasnít it so bought one. I currently have preistly, geffner, African Pride and an unknown. Iím looking for PPC, Pink mammoth and Dream. And now 47-18. After hoping that was the tree I had I did some research and now I want one. How are your scions on reticulata doing? Also how long have you had them. Iím still very new to grafting. Like still just looking at videos. That said I started about 40 cherimoya seeds for future rootstock. Figured Iíd at have enough to mess up and learn with.

Doesnt fit in with my image of gefner, AP or any of the mammoth clan. There is something odd about that one and from a few leaves sherlock holmes and nostradamus might have to be called in on this.

Hi Mike T Iíve added more pics.

May I ask where did you get this annona? Iíve been looking for either a scion or a plant.

CHN90, I bought this tree from Tomís Nursery (vuon trai cay) in Houston. So if your Spring, TX is the one north of Houston you should visit. Helen the seller was honest and said they said Atemoya but wasnít sure. But it was too large for me to say no too. Which is why Iím hoping temoylata because I know some people wrongly call them atemoya. But it might just be a Reticulata which is fine too. Though that means I now have 3 custards apples 😅.

21
Not an Atemoya.  Not likely a Cherilata.  Looks like a Temoylata, such as the 47--18.  (Not 48--17)
TY Guanabanus hoping to get fruit this season for confirmation.

22
They look nothing like my Geffner. My leaves are much paler and fuzzy not at all shiny and from the pic mine are smaller also.

I agree I just bought a geffner and the leaves look different. TY gnappi.

23
TY Seanny, how would you describe the flavor and texture of 48-17?

Flavor was ok the year before, bad last year.
Texture was soft.

Leaves on your tree also look like leaves on a cherilata.
No fruits here.

I think cherilatas have wider leaves.

TBA you think after years of gardening I would have learned patience but nope. In this case it seems like it will be forced. Once and if I get a fruit I will add it to this thread. Because if itís not a straight reticulata I may need help identifying. TY both for helping.

24

I grow them for ornamental so I only have a branch or 2.
I have to pollinate a few flowers else no fruits.
I have no experience with self pollination.

TY Seanny and thatís a very nice looking fruit.

There are flowers on the tree so maybe some fruit. In your experience with reticulataís and their hybridís are they self pollinating or should I hand pollinate?
