No not sure about GMO, maybe University of Arkansas selected instead of bred. It has been a great grower and producer for me. Fruiting on the primo canes is no joke easily double the next best crop on the year. My little boy loves raspberries, Iíve been wanting to try heritage. Good to know about taste on mysore. Iíve heard they grow well here but if it doesnít taste like a raspberry then might as well go blackberry! I have some native Texas dewberries selected that I dug up from the wild. They are thorny as all get out and require some water and trellis training to get them off the ground, but itís one of the best berries in the world. None of the generic blackberry taste. Weíve foraged for them since I was a kid. I can taste the dewberry cobbler now. Can send you some slips if you want, send me a pm. I will warn you they are THORNY though

Just a thought! Some of those Eugeniaís are pretty hardy, maybe even down to the teens? Theyíre pretty care free here, not many bugs or diseases for me and can handle varying amounts of water. Repanda supposedly tastes about as close as you can get to the real thing. Idk might be worth a shot. Iíve failed many times trying to grow the real thing, climate for me not conducive to long term success

Several Eugeniaís? Maybe start with E.Repanda and go from there if itís cherry flavor youíre looking for. Not sure what your exact climate is there but they all seem to do pretty well here, 105F in August, 25F in January some years. I live on the coast where itís humid so that probably doesnít hurt

Beautiful tree Roblack! Mine donít look quite that happy. What potting mix are you using? Whatís your water like?

Id really love to grow more wampee. Iíve heard they get greening bad. Might be one worth the trouble though? Have some superior varieties but canít find a source for good seed.

You might need to do a DNA test to know for sure. :)
They are definitely Eugenias... but the exact species is sort of a grey area for me.
I've been using the umbrella term Cherry of the Rio Grande.
Hopefully someone else can weigh-in with a more accurate explanation.

Do you think maybe E. Calycina??

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: What triggers flowering in tropical guava?
« on: February 01, 2023, 03:38:50 PM »
I had been told to top the higher branches and pop back (instead of cut stems) some of the bigger leaves leaves and it helps trigger flowering. I also add a more phosphorus/bloom type fertilizer, as well as micros and soil acidifier. So far have been able to fruit in both spring and fall. Not sure how much is coincidence, only had a few years of trial with these, but seems to work. I also use low pH water, not sure if that has any bearing or not

Can grow muntingia kind of like an annual, maybe take some large cuttings in the fall and stick inside as a backup. Itís easier to cover a short stump also. They fruit fast and taste amazing. Like fruity pebbles.

Pete Kanaris grows the mysore raspberry. I think heís in zone 9? Iíve been wanting to try those, I know nothing of them. Weíve grown tons of blackberries, heirlooms always taste the best. We do have one GMO variety called prime ark freedom from university of Arkansas. Puts off two giant crops a year berries 1-1.5 inches long. Fruits on primo canes, not flurocanes! Flavor is decent but the crop production is out of this world

Maybe try the Ruby Supreme 1030 worm resistant from Lara. I also have a seedless Thai white I could airlayer that seems to grow extreme fast and not get the scale as bad.
