What type of fruit tree is this?
« on: July 04, 2019, 12:44:22 AM »
One of my friends was super excited about a special tree his aunt has and he asked me if I could put on some air layers for them. The tree is growing in San Diego and my friend says it’s a Langsat/Langzat. I know nothing about Langsats so I googled some pictures and YouTubed some videos and the leaves of Langsats appear different than the leaves from my friends tree. Does anyone know what type of fruit this is?

Here’s some pictures of the leaves and flowers.

I agree with xshen. I have a 3 ft wampee. It has not flowered yet, but the leaves definitely look like that.

Thanks guys!  I just looked up Wampee and it does appear to be Wampee.  Anyone know where I might be able to pick up a grafted tree for my friend? Thanks

Hi Simon,

There is no need to graft wampee, wampee seedling can start flowering around 4-5 years.  Grafted one will take up 3 - 4 years to set flower.  Just give the seedling a lot of sun, water, and nutrition.
Thx,
Al

Al, are you positive seedling will fruit 4-5 years? I have a 4+ year old seedling at 7 feet now but no flowers yet .If this is the case I might have fruit soon?

Yes, my seedling is about between 4-5 years old.  I got some fruits this past fall already.

Seedlings flower at around 5 and grafted plants at around 2 but this can vary of course.
