Garcinia fruit id
« on: May 28, 2021, 03:59:56 PM »
Last year, a nice forum member sent me some of these labeled as bacupari. After some research, I found out that bacupari is a name for many many garcinias. I'm hoping to find out exactly what these are.

Has a large seed and somewhat thick rind. Thanks!

Looks like an Imbe. African Mangosteen in the Garcinia family. Garcinia livingtonei.

Imbe has a very thin skin and orange flesh. I do not think these look like imbe. Maybe gardneriana

I think it could easily be a S. American garcinia.  Best if you show a photo with flesh and seed instead of just the whole fruit.

Thats what i was thinking
Looks pretty close in size and color to the orange lemon drops I've seen.
And i still cant tell the difference between that and brasilliensis, at least from looks

I have had intermedia, brsiliensis, gardheriana, achacha and imbe in my hand and in my mouth in the last few months. I don't think is any of them but cant be sure. If I could see a cut fruit or bit of torn off skin I could probably identify it. Garcinia trees and fruit are difficult to identify without further clues. Below is a yound achacha tree I took pix of recently and how the fruit are on the tree helps you know what it is immediately.

Mike T,
The fruit had a single large seed and the rind was thick (not thin like the lemon drop). So it's definitely not imbe or intermedia (lemon drop). Also I don't know if it is G. brasiliensis (superior lemon drop) as I have tried the fruit and and it was not like these ones (brasilienses was smaller and more like lemon drop since it had a thin skin and seed was way smaller compared to these. So maybe it could be achacha? gardneriana? Thanks for the help.
