yellow hogg plum I think
« on: June 07, 2021, 02:33:33 PM »

I have noticed this hogg plum growing alongside a road the past
couple months. Finally the fruit colored up and I got a couple today.
They are super sweet mostly juice inside. Really tasty!
I will get cuttings of this for sure

Nice score.  Isn't the yellow supposed to be sweeter than the red?

They are real juicy and yes very sweet.
I had one years ago that had a gold/purple color fruit and they were bitter and
I got rid of the tree. I really like my red but this one might beat it

There are many varieties of Spondias Mombin in Central America yet to be distributed here in the US it would be fine for someone to procure a good collection. Likely with so many migrants from the region they will have a "walking stick". I know of one in my area which is about twice normal size with a nipple on the end, Jocote de Pezon.
