The ones I had were decent but not outstanding. They didnt taste super fresh, standard grocery store pineapple type thing. But I did detect less acidity and a more syrupy sweet taste.

I personally came away thinking the reason for this fruit is mostly its color.

I bought some of the pinkglow pineapple today to taste it and see if I can get the tops to grow out.
The pineapple is very good tasting, I like it better than the normal store bought pineapple since it doesn't have as much acid so I can eat more of this fruit in one sitting.

I have tasted the Maui's best, Meli Kalima , which is much sweeter but I like this one as much or more since there is more flesh. The 3 fruits I purchased today were all over 3 lbs each so I would say it might be at least 2X more flesh to eat than the Meli Kalima. When I was vacationing at Maui we had many of the Meli Kalima and they were very sweet but not that large at all, not sure if it was 1.5 lbs each. The pinkglow is very different due to the nice pink colored flesh.

I will add some photos from the fruits I cut and ate tonight. These are on sale now and it was $18 each.

Has anyone successfully grown the tops of these pineapples ?

Here's some photos of the 2 pinkglow pineapples I purchased and ate. They are nice size fruits and when ripe tastes very good.

Are the crowns cut off or twisted off?

If they’ve been twisted off there might be no primordial root tissue left.

But if they’ve just been sliced off, this video shows propagation from just a thin disc of crown material:

It was cut off, but I did try to root them in water, did not work. Next time I will try the method shown in your video with sphagnum moss. Thanks.

If you are in southern california, sometimes the fancy Gelson's grocery store has them (or, they can order the pineapples for you), and you don't have to pay the shipping.  Unfortunately, they do refrigerate these, at least at Gelson's.
I did purchase one to taste, and it wasn't anything special.  Just a grocery store pineapple, but with pink flesh (looked a lot like ham though).

Hey that was a great video good explanation I expect many of the Pinkglows have been cut high enough to have material available for this. I'll be on the lookout for a store specimen instead of ordering, maybe there will be a choice of them and can spot one which has the disc available.

I've tried the Pinkglow and really liked it. Definitely sweeter and less acidic than all the others I've tried before.

The originators appear to be protecting their investment by not releasing tops with fruits. Just a matter of time, but probably makes $ense.

I agree with Rob, I thought it was sweeter than the normal yellow pinapple, not much acidic taste. I bought both types and ate them side by side for comparison. Also the pink color is very impressive, good conversation piece for a party snacks.

I saw online someone growing one from the seeds since they cut off the tops. Also I know if 2 local farms here in Miami who are growing them.

If you search the forum there is another member here who has gotten seed to germinate.

I tried growing the seeds, but nothing so far. Seeds are very small in this pinapple.

pineapple seeds can take from 2 to 6 months to germinate but you can speed it up if you use a seed heating mat

Got my hands on a Del Monte pink glow pineapple today and I have to share my opinion about it. It has to be the worst tasting pineapple I ever had it was Bland not very sweet and didn't have much of a sweet smell at all..everyone has their own tastes for things and this pineapple is not for me

Of course I can't say for sure, but my guess is you got a poor example of the fruit. Hard to believe a pineapple lover would dislike the fruit I had. Not even close to bland.

Evideadguy, your pineapple may not be in season, I bought mine (4) all in the month of June and every one was very sweet and good tasting. I haven't seen much pineapples for sale now at my local stores.

I'd blame the grower/distributor, not the variety.

This is circulating on Facebook and it looks genuine. Sanwa Farmer's market is located in Tampa and has the largest selection of veg/fruit I have ever seen in this area, specializing in Asian and ethnic world foods packaged and fresh. The entire veg area is cooled down to around 50 degrees so Floridians should bring a sweater to browse. Either this is a major "loss leader" or the price of Pinkglow has crashed.
It would be prudent to call and ask about current availability.

Wow.. 2 for $4?!
I thought I was lucky paying "only" $26 from the grocery store, instead of $50 shipped  :o

Yes its been discussed.  Del Monte and the FDA say its a totally safe to eat 50$ pineapple.  So no worries.

A few months ago I was in San Diego on other matters and attempted to buy a PinkGlow Pineapple from Specialty Produce, but they were sold out.  :'(

Then this last weekend I was driving from SF back to LA, and I stopped by a random fruit stand on Hwy 152 near Gilroy, and found these for $20/each, including tax:

They actually have a fair amount of crown material on them:

I'm going to eat the fruit and attempt the sphagnum moss technique with the crowns. Wish me luck!
