Importing Myrica Rubra if you want to join.
« on: September 04, 2024, 08:25:06 PM »

I am planning on another import of Myrica (Yangmei) from China. Wondering if anyone wants to join along in purchasing base root trees.

Myrica rubra var. Dongkui
Myrica rubra var. Wumei
Myrica rubra var. Biqi
Myrica rubra var. Tanmei
Myrica rubra var. Zaose
Myrica rubra var. Dingxiang
Myrica rubra var. Longyan
Myrica rubra var. Alba
Myrica rubra var. Yingsi
Myrica rubra var. Heitan
Myrica rubra var. Gaofeng

I recently ordered 500 plants from the vendor. There was no sign on RKN.

Price will be 60 per plant. Buyer will cover shipping (either FedEx overnight or 2 day) Local pickup will be in zephyrhills Florida. Adding a 5$ packaging/box fee.

I will place the final order date as September 6th.  It is 15 days for the phyto to be generated so estimated arrival the week of September 23rd.

Payment: half will be due up front and the remainder will be due once shipping cost has been determined for the final location. I accept PayPal, Venmo and Zelle.

Best way to reach me is email: Kactuskups@gmail.com

500 trees?!
Any pictures of how they look?
What was your survival rate for 500 trees?
Bare root ones never seemed to have good rates, with last order having successes in the single digit %.

I am being incompetent and can’t figure out how to upload pics from my phone.

I got about 25% survival but I attribute that to the hiccup encountered with customs. With that lesson learned.  think this order survival will be significantly higher. Took 3 days transit to get into APHIS hands.

So if I purchase a tree there is only a 25%+ chance it will survive? Do I have that correct?

No. I am the importer so I bear the first brunt of loss which can be anywhere from 10% - 30% plus on arrival. Just the nature of importing.

You are new to this forum, can you tell me if you had many people on this forum place the orders for the yangmei plants?

I may be interested in purchasing a few.

Nobody yet. I’ll be bringing in plants regardless. Just reach out if you want to partake.

Other than the most well-known ones like Biqi and Dongkui, do you have more information on these varieties? Between the Chinese names and the translated ones that go around it's hard to keep track of what is what.  I'm very interested.

Would really be great to see what you’ve gotten from previous buys

Yes please pictures of trees and sizes.
If you could sell scions, I'd buy a few.

Can you post some photos of the trees you already have that came from the same source in China.

You don't give much information about the plants and your 9/6 deadline is ending tonight. I don't know if you are legit or scamming here.

Well the legit imports did not work out well, turns out bare rooting diseased tree's from China and then shipping them out a second time is a bad idea.

There's CA sellers like Wildlands Nate , also Jeremy. Or try grafting onto Myrica Californica.

Yup, I did find one of our old-time forum members who had it for sale so I'm buying a established plant from him.

I did get a reply now, he said he will postpone this order until next March to do it.

Well, I hope he comes back with more information, especially on who he is, what he's selling, etc.  He'd have a lot more interest clarifying any doubts, a new poster making an offer like this is going to invite more doubt than belief.
