Just wanted to share some pic's of top worked trunk on Mexicola tree that I did in Jan 2014.

Nice! What it a seedling tree? What are the cultivars of the topwork? Fuerte, Reedo, Mayo... ?

high heat, im getting these on my well established avocado trees too.

Leaf burn could be heat or salt build up in soil since were in a drought in Calif. Mexicola is the grafted tree originally but I top worked one trunk to; Reed, Koala,Taft, Joe Naulty,Hazzard, Mayo, Don Gillogly, Holister, Malama ,Gwen, 90yr old Fuerte, Jan Boyce, Mary Criollo were just grafted about month ago and are pushing bud's through para-film. Have two other trees on property but haven't taken pic's yet!

I cut the two trunks on this unknown avocado variety to 3 feet in June 2013. After my grafts directly into the bark of the trunk all failed I grafted water shoots, which all failed. Luckily the root system has been resilient and kept sending out water shoots to graft. Finally three took early this summer ( Green Gold, Jan Boyce, and Lamb Hass) and they grew fast with the established root system in place. Now I need to cut the 2nd trunk to stop more water shoots and let the grafted trunk continue to thrive.

Nice multigrafting guys, congrats on the cocktail avo trees, it'll be even more exciting in a few years when they start to fruit!

Will be interesting when my tree comes to fruiting for sure Ethan. Nice job Bush2B, that's the way to do it just keep at it!! Good luck growing out to fruiting that multi-grafted jewel. ;D 8)

what method of grafting did you use on the water shoots? How long did it take you water shoots to grow to an appropriate diameter for grafting?

I cleft grafted the water shoots. 1/2 inch or 5/8 , a little larger size is what I like for avocado scion .
 If the grafts fail the first time like mine did just keep grafting the new water shoots and prune the ones you did not graft to focus energy to the new grafts.

I whip and tongue graft any size from 1/4"-1/2" and after topping tree just wait for growth to get that size in Ca. have from best grafting time is early in year after Dec. flush of growth and Autumn after late Summer early fall flush of growth.
