HI All,

     I'm curious about your approach-- I'm due to put up a greenhouse in a few months and need your thoughts:

(1) Electricity--  did you have an electrician run outlets to the interior or are you OK relying on extension cords and the like?  If you did re-wire an outlet, was that done before or after the greenhouse structure was up?

(2) Water -- did you have a plumber run water to the interior, and is it better to do that before the structure is up or is it typically reasonable to put up the structure first?

      If it matters-- this will be an Janssen's aluminum 10x15 greenhouse in 9B.

Our climate in Redlands is similar to Riverside--
Is it better to grow an Atemoya like AP or Geffner, and then possibly graft, or to grow a Cherimoya and then possibly graft?

Thanks for the share, Mark.  As an aspiring Tropical Fruit grower, I personally would watch any update of these types of videos, it inspires the rest of us.

I'm curious-- do you have a top 5 of the varieties that you grow?  I am hoping to grow that Kecil that you and James helped give access to.

It was fun to see the collection of trees at Ong's this past weekend.  I was somewhat interested in Jambu (Wax Apple) and Guava for which they seem well stocked. 
Some brief questions for the group:
  1) Tropical Guava:  What are your favorites among the vast selection they have?   (I'm most interested in Asian Guava varieties and not Lemon, Strawberry, or Feijoa)
  2) Wax Apple:  Of the varieties you've seen, which seem most flavorful or sweet?
  3) Mango trees: I got an offhand answer from an attendant that they grow them on Manila rootstock but some carried Florida type labels-- any impressions from those who have bought these and tried them?

Hi All,
    You all have some very nice SoCal Mango trees around.  For those on this thread, I'm interested in learning more about the soil you use for your In Ground Mango trees.  In particular, I was considering the best way to plant Mango trees into the typical sandy clay that characterizes some Inland Empire or Orange County areas.   Assuming that drainage isn't too big a problem do you tend to plant in (1) straight native sandy clay,  (2) supplement with some percentage of sand / gypsum / pumice, or (3) alter the planting hole some other way?  Also, does the rootstock or variety matter in the decision of your soil choices?

Hi There,

    I was at San Diego Botanic garden (Encinitas) last week, and it's got a nice collection of trees and shrubs (and a Children's garden too).  While I did see some tropical fruit trees, it was clear that fruit is for display and not for picking or sale.  I am not a San Diego native however-- some may be able to point toward other fruit stands or farmers' markets that would be good for tasting.

I'm interested in opinions regarding watering Mango Trees in SoCal:

Please comment on how much or how frequently you would water the following trees, assume 90-100 degree daytime temps in summer with decent drainage:

1) A potted seedling, 0-6 months old
2) A potted tree, 3 gallon to 5 gallon size   (like a Manila from Home Depot, newly bought)
3) In ground tree, average clay soil with decent drainage, 5-7 gallon size

Great to see such nice trees in SoCal.
I'm wondering, to those who have success with ST and Peach Cobbler-- do you tend to plant Florida rootstock trees into the ground at the 3g or 7g size, or grow them larger than that in pots first?

I realize that we all have our regional limitations-- 
Here in inland SoCal we have Oranges and Avocados in abundance-- southern highbush blueberries do well too.  I do think there is something like 100 chill hours needed so i'm not sure how Hawaii ranks in those categories.
If only I could grow a Mango or a Papaya-- those end up being a 8 out of 10 on the difficulty scale here due to our wet cold winters.
