Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Upgraded Greenhouse and 2016 Fruits

Thanks
@sildanani: The peak of the greenhouse is about 12ft tall.
@knlim000: It's not a fiberless soursop. I believe it is a Miami-Florida kind. I bought the tree from TopTropical. I didin't keep any seed from previous fruits. There is one fruit left. If you are interested in getting seeds from it, I definitely can send you some. The roseapple (wax Jampu) is about 3 years old.
@Toomuch: Yes, I built mostly by myself. Got some help from brothers and in-law.

Thanks Allan. Yes, greenhouse is a must have in order to grow tropical fruit here in VA. I have to expand mine because the plants are getting bigger.

Good luck with yours!

Thanks all

@Khoi: The dragon fruit is in a 25g container.
@Shinzo: I usually water once a day during growing season (not winter). During the first year, I fed compost tea. After that, just a typical slow release fertilizer from Home Depot (once a year).

Soursop, 2 years old grafting from Top Tropical. Second fruit ripe today (7/5/16)

Pickering Mango. So tempting to taste a first-home-grow mango ever. Therefore, I didn't take off the fruit.

Sugar Apple

Dragon Fruit

3-years old Cherimoya. Super fast grower. It flowers for first time this year. One fruit formed to about 1/2 inch, but fell off.

Gafner

Wax Jampu

Sapodila. Starts season with 8 fruits. Thanks to squirrel, only two fruit left.

Longan. Late flower

Hi Dragon,

The flower buds were formed around August. They bloomed in November, but the little fruits look like dead for nearly two months. After that they grew slowly til ripe. Good luck with your plant Dragon. I heard that seeding plants can fruit in two years.

As today (July 2nd, 2016), after two years, a first soursop fruit ripe. Three more fruit still hang on the tree. The tree grows so fast. It is reaching my greenhouse roof top.
This is my first time eating a soursop fruit without sugar added. It's kind of sour. It lives to its name. It tastes much better with sugar and ice mixing together.

Cheer,

hi Dan,
Thanks for the compliment. I mostly feed whatever organic fertilizer I can find at HomeDepot plus compost tea during summer time. I grow them organically.
It is a Pommelo. I don't know what kind, but is really big. Not very sweet though.
I pot all my plants with 5-1-1 mix.
The set my Greenhouse Thermostat to 62 degree. Therefore, temperature in the greenhouse doesn't get lower than 60 degree.
I have problem with mango bloom early as well. When when bloom early and in the greenhouse, they don't set fruit, except for my Pickering mango. Pickering seems to set fruit easily and not being picky.
I don't do anything special to the pineapple. It just grows in there and set fruit. I think pineapple is a very low maintenance kind of plant.

Thanks Dan

Here is a photo of update Sourshop fruit and mango.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks Bhkkatemoya! There was a lot of pruning and wiring for cay Dao to make it look like that. To promote flower is simple. Just let it have enough chill hour outdoor, and then bring it in 2 weeks before New Year. Flowers developed within those 2 weeks, and bloom right on New Year. Cay Mai is a little tricky; have to prune off the leaves two months prior New Year, and let it sit in the greenhouse for 1 month with temperature about 60F at night. One month before New Year, I transferred it to much smaller greenhouse, where I can maintain temperature around 75F, so it can bloom right on New Year. So much more work comparing when we were in Vietnam. Lol.

To Dalvi83. Yes, the banana grow inside the greenhouse. However, it's taking too much space. I think I have to let it go to make room for other plants even though I love it very much.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

To BahanaDan: The citrus in the background is a blood orange. It was loaded with fruit. We ate most of it, only two left.
To Gozp: I believed I got a 7 gallon grafted Homestead. It was around $100 from Top Tropical. Here is a picture when I just received it in June 2014.

Finally, I was able to taste a red dragon fruit. It's bigger, juicier, but not as sweet as the smaller white dragon fruit.

Here is how I water my plants inside the greenhouse when it rain. Trying to create an environment similar to outside. When it rains outside, it also rains inside.

Hopefully, it wont give too much trouble for the wood frame.

Thanks Michael and From the Sea,

The flower base is still remain on the tree. The first flower still has its base for a week, but it haven't got any bigger. I assume it wasn't pollinate.

Thanks again
