Hey everyone.

I'm having some trouble hand pollinating rollinia/biriba. Female flowers and male flowers are showing up a day or 2 apart from each other. Can I refrigerate or freeze the pollen for the next round of female flowers? Or, is there another way to store viable pollen for a day or 2?

I'm looking for some ideas on how to proceed with my mangosteen project. Since South FL soil is full of limestone (pic below shows just how bad. It is solid limestone at the bottom of that hole, had to use a jackhammer to get that deep), I was thinking of creating suitable soil, and then placing the plant above the amended soil, on a raised mound secured by rootsaver pots that will be attached to one another.

Just had this hole dug. Thinking I should line it. The hole is roughly 43 inches diameter by 2 feet deep. Calculates to a little over 150 gallons.




How should I line it? Should I leave holes for drainage? Are there any liners with copper in them, and if so, are they safe to use?

Also, any advice on soil composition is appreciated. "deep rich organic soil, especially sandy loam or laterite" is recommended on the hort.purdue.edu site. How might I achieve such soil?

Found this interesting article about aphids changing/enhancing the sugar, organic acid, and amino acid content of plants. Got me to wondering, might some "pests" be good for our plants/fruits if kept in-check? Anyone have any experience or insight into matters like this?

Hello everyone.

Does anyone have advice on treating well water for a sprinkler system? I live in south florida with limestone soil, and think the well water is pretty hard and alkaline. Where the sprinkler hits a bit window, getting some spotting and residue on the glass that is difficult to remove. Also, want the plants to have best water possible. Any recommendations or suggestions?

Looking for yellow dragon fruit (selenicereus megalanthus) pollen to pollinate my lone first flower. I can send a few things back in trade, such as some seeds from the cross, various plant cuttings to choose from, or can pay shipping and labor.

I've read that they are self fertile and usually pollinate well enough naturally. But the fruit size is considerably smaller, with lower brix and seed count unless they get some help with the process.

Went to Mango Fest 2017 today, and had a great time checking everything out; especially the mangosteen trees. They have several trees fruiting, 3 medium sized ones very close together, and I believe the smaller one may be mangosteen as well. Also, they have durian growing rather large there. Did not notice any fruits on that tree.
