Wanted: scuppernong mango tree
« on: June 22, 2015, 09:21:18 PM »
Went to the Fairchild mango festival in coral gables fl a few years back and had a scuppernong mango. Holy sh** delicious!!  Looking to buy a scuppernong mango tree but super hard to find.  If anybody has any leads I'm all ears!  Thanks :)

You inquired 3 years ago about this and received information about nobody propagating.   For the generic reason Alex stated, nothing would have cganged to cause anyone to begin propagating.   There must be something that makes it less than desirable for propagation purposes.  Possibly contact TREC or the Fruit and Spice Park to see if they could provide you with budwood.   That is probably your best and only chance at getting one.

Check out this information provided by the Tropical Research and Education Center.

http://trec.ifas.ufl.edu/crane/pdfs/TREC-Fruit-Collections.pdf

Here's an important section: "In general, small amounts of propagation material (i.e., seeds, budwood, and graftwood) are available upon request."

Scuppernong is indeed in their collection, so if you know how to graft, you will be able to graft your own tree.  :)
