Samuel, that looks absolutely delicious!! Considering the fact that the local mango season is pretty much over for the majority of trees here, I would definitely pay $3 for a perfectly ripe mango to treat myself.

The verdict! The fruit had little to no fiber and had a creamy texture. I didn't have a strong flavor ,but it was really sweet. I could somewhat taste at the end a soda drink taste like 7up??? For me it tasted really good :)

Here's some pictures when open:

Europe is the main market for Israeli mangos. The really surprising thing is that they bother to ship them to Canada?

Maya mango was developed from Haden seedling
it is very popular as an backyards tree in Israel
maya is recognized in supermarkets by its vibrant colors
with very little fibers, for few is considered too sweet.
from the photos that mango it too ripe at least to my taste.
when fruit has shades of green and is only half blush the taste is better

hi, :D

To tell you, this is the first time I found the mango Maya here in France in the trade, you will find essentially kent 95%(green, no flavor), large quantities from Latin America (but very rarely mango Maya Israel).
The Israel renewed its park with mango, because a few years ago Israel, exported only mango Kent.
Acres of tree maya, were planted to trade in Galilee near the sea in the Jordan valley, more drought resistant, limestone, etc. ...
I paid 1.45 euros each = 1.82 dollars(a little expensive).
For mangoes (called choice and rare, where I usually refueled me), only  grocery store Asian  8).

Yes, I speak French, but I made a big effort to learn English. ;D 8)

hi,

Samuelforest you see, unlike you, here in France, for varieties of mangoes, other than Kent, I go to my friend grocer Asia, depending on the season, I find more varieties of mangoes, ex: Nam doc may, atauflo, haden, okrung tong .. ... I expect the Maha Chanok "very hard to get" and more when he sells them, they are ready to eat :P :P :P ;).
my family has tasted maya, they are all my beloved and say sweet, good flavor, excellent. ::) :D 8)

Some of us will understand the main idea of the conversation and at the same time, we will get more exposure to Voltaire's (Francois Marie Arouet) language! I cannot speak it, but I can read some.  However, I can get my food using that beautiful language. Keep it up!  A text in French and a text in English....lots of work!!!!! ;D

Hi guys, :) :D ;D 8)
Cool, we're all friends, we share the same passion. 8) 8) ;D
I'll write in English and French if you do not mind (?) :-[.
For mango Nam doc may, in April, if I remember correctly, I even made a seedling of a nam doc may. (I'll post tomorrow on the forum)
For mango okrung mid-January, the two comers of Thailand.
For Maha Chanok, my friend Thai had me back, but there were more.
I must have Maha Chanok next week, but it will be hard to get because everybody expects.  ::):P

I was visiting the experimental station where some varieties are being evaluated,  wanted to see what was still holding fruit there,  and came across 2 beautiful looking Maya, that have fallen,  but they were perfect looking, the fruit is highly attractive, small.   I ate one,   the flesh was firm, not super juicy,  a little fiber close to the seed.

As for taste,  It had a  odd flavor, that took me time to pin down,  then it hit me,  it tasted like Mango with Barbados Cherries, I actually enjoyed this little mangoes. are there better mangoes? sure,  but this is a decent mango,  clean fruit, colorful,  I can see why it was chosen for commercial purposes.

I just had one myself, and I felt like eating a Mexican grown Haden. It was softer than what I prefer hence I think it would have been better had they picked it a tad earlier.

I believe it is an Israeli of indian decent. The redness makes me sus about a hydrocarbon taint. Never tried it but its what's inside that counts.

The ones I tried were monoembryonic and very similar in shape to Haden.
