November Harvest, 2012 :=)
« on: November 10, 2012, 11:20:50 AM »
Howdy Folks, ;)

Here's a few pics of the harvest and some trees :)

Jackfruit growing tall and proud ;) 1 year down...4 years to go :)

Crunchy White fleshed Guava...Yikes, my foot sneaked in :o That's how I roll in the orchard ;D always work barefooted, except in winter ;)

Glenn Mango flushing with the abundance of rain.

Giant Ice cream bean-Inga edulis.

Fairchild's nº2 Canistel seedling.

Newly planted Jackfruit.

Natal plum...planted a few to create a protective edible hedge.

Row of nanners(2 big and one small) with sweet potato as a ground cover.

My first home grown pineapple was truly amazing and very sweet. When i cut into this badboy, the aroma was pure heaven and i luved it :) I thought it would come out on the sour side...it came out pretty darn excellent 8) My Grandfather had some pineapple plants back in the day, and from what i heard from my Mom and relatives, is that my Grandfather wanted to produce a few pineapples...he's dream was cut short...the workers remove the plants without he's consent and never got the chance to see them produce :( So, I planted a few pineapples to make my Grandfather's dream come true...after about two years, i finally produce a pineapple :) I'm sure he's happy to finally see a pineapple flower and fruit on he's land :)

Tree ripened persimmon 8)

Not ready yet ;)

Now, the best part of the thread...The Harvest :)

Passions(eduil x flavicarpa(2) and flavicarpa). Tamaillos(they were quite small, not a good strain), Persimmons, Monstera deliciosa, Pineapple and them Tommies :)

Tommy ready for degustation ;D

Load of Guavas...the aroma from them in the kitchen...was truly awesome :)

Hope everyone likes them pics :)

Thanks ;)

Hi Dave,
Thanks  :) Don't remember much about this Jackfruit...It's a firm/Crunchy Jackfruit variety from South Florida.

Wow Steven, what a great post, trees and fruits look amazing!  The smell of a fully ripe pineapple is amazing, glad you are able to honor your grandfather too.  With the guavas and the pina, you house must smell like heaven.

congrats,

Hi Stephen,
Thanks :) With time and effort spend in the orchard, it's always great to get some fruits for our labour :) Oh boy, 5 years time :o God willing, I will plant more fruit trees till the orchard is bursting by the seams ;D

Hi Ethan,
Thanks :) The aroma from both in the house was truly awesome. It's a pitty the pineapple didn't ripen around Christmas. Over here, it's tradition to have a pineapple on Christmas day. I am sure my Grandpa was samba'n when i harvested the pineapple ;D

Happy you guys...enjoyed them pics :)

Great pix Steven.Jacks are strange with their juvenile period and some seedling turn into prodigies.I have one that is less than 5 with its second major crop.Your Grandpa will be going the rumba around the garden when all the trees get their act together.

wonderful pics!!!

do your guavas have worms??

also I think I notice your inga has a white coloration to the leaf,  mine has this as well...and I've never seen an inga seedling do this?

I wonder why it's white?  mine and yours looks like it will grow out of it.

your soil looks amazing!!

can't wait to see an update in a few years!

thanks Steven!!!

Hi Mike,
Thanks :) What i noticed is that this Jackfruit growing in a soil with charcoal/ash and of course the native soil...the growth was very vigorous compared with the other Jackfruit trees growing in native soil. I will give them all what they need to prosper and produce early. Hopefully they will kick ass over here ;D WOW That's amazing, your Jackfruit tree sure ain't play'n around  8)
;D If all them tree get their act togather...I reckon he will be over the galaxy ;D

Olá Anaxel,
Thank you :)

Hi Adam,
Thanks :) After hanging those bottles with the aged vinegar, the population of fruit flies was significantly reduced. Out of a bunch of fruits i ate...only found two with worms. But, those fruits that fall and ripen on the ground...got attacked by small beetles and fruit flies. Next year, i will pick up all the guavas that fall on the floor and give them to a neighbours pig.
Wow you also have the same issue with the Inga...my seedlings start off like this, then they gradually enter the green leaf stage. I truly don't know why they start out white :-\ Luckly, our seedlings will grow out of it.  :)
The soil is great, though, it's a pain in the back when the rainy season start and the soil get's quite heavy. On the plus side...you don't need to go to the gym ;D

Happy you guys enjoyed them pics :)
