Durian seedling flowers?
« on: October 27, 2019, 02:44:04 PM »
I notice very unusual buds on one of my durian seedlings. They look like flower buds but I know that durian is cauliflorous. Can anybody explain whats go on?

Yeah, it doesn’t really look right.  You’re sure it’s durian? I can’t tell much from the photo.

Are you sure this is a durian? Can you show a pic of the whole tree?

You can tell its a durian by the petioles but yes the flowers don't look right.

I don't know, never seen a durian flower like this. Also never seen a durian flower after 7 months from seed and sure  not in Poland. What variety is it? From where?

Still, the photo is poor. The leaves look like durian somewhat but you can’t see that well. Considering how weird the flower bud looks for durian you’d want to see a photo looking at the whole plant from above at least.

Are there any Durio species that aren't cauli/ramiflorous? Maybe it's a spontaneous mutation o_O?

First of all, as far as I know, Durian is not a cabbage but a tropical fruit.
Secondly, they usually bloom in this way. I mean, there's nothing strange about that. It's just that you might have mixed something up.
I have the same plant at home, and I can say that it looks absolutely normal. So, you have nothing to worry about unless you are upset that it is not cabbage.
By the way, Durian is just beautiful in flower. These large white flower buds can not leave anyone indifferent. And these white pearls are just magical.

The underside of the leafs does not have a golden/silver look to them, more green. Hard to see in the image though.
Feels a bit like a prank.

Could you take a quality image of the full tree, underside of a mature leaf and then a better image of the inflorescence.

The inflorecense reminds me of Elaeagnus.
