Some Pictures and a found first time fruit set!
« on: May 05, 2013, 07:50:44 PM »
Ok folk's some pic's to kinda show some of my plants because was to hot Friday to do much outside and a first time fruit set on Lucuma seedling. ;D

These two pic from G.H. looking at dragon fruit collection each pot different variety, pineapple,Rollinia deliciosa.

These two pic's show shade house outside of G.H. & Brown Turkey fig and Winter Banana Apple step over.

Hass and Reed Avocado on mexicola R.S. west side of house.

Looking North fuerte Avocado,Multi-grafted White Sapote,Surinam Cherries various seedling var.,red& yellow strawberry guava,on left is Rainbow W. Sapote multi-grafted.

Lindstrom Atemoya,Jabooticaba small, surinam cherry seedling "Lolita"

Jabo lower right, L. atemoya just pruned, and Seedling Lucuma "Inca Gold"

My big surprise my first lucuma to set on Inca gold seedling that was put in ground 02 and behind it another taller Lucuma seedling unknown planted -04 never set yet but has flowered for 4-yrs. That's a little of my 2.4 acres of planting over 34yrs. too bad I wasn't into fruiting sub-tropical & tropicals way back then but any way that's where I'm coming from enjoy! 8)

Hi Scott,

It looks really nice. Everything looks so organized in your garden! How tall is that fruiting seedling lucuma?

Cool set up! I can see no space will be wasted  ;D  :P So many plants, and they look great too! As a northerner, it's always a treat to get a glimpse of yards/property from members on here, since I don't (obviously) see sights such as this around here. Thank You  :)

Wow, it has been way too long since I've seen you place!  Everything is filling in so nice and the GH looks like you've got it set up even better than before.  Congrats on the Lucuma fruit, hopefully it'll be incredible.  For those of you who dont know, there was a ton left out of these pictures, including incredible sculptures and installations of art work fitting into the landscape as organically as the beautiful plants.

An amazing place to visit (you should charge admission)!

Thanks Gwenn, now if I could just get them to flower :'(
Ethan, your to kind I hope the Lucuma goes the way my Macadamia's did which is to keep setting more fruit every year. Your still got me beat when it comes to tropicals I've killed most of the plants you gave after a long struggle :'( :'( Joe asked were my Cherimoyas were here you go:
Multi-grafted Cherimoya espaliered against south wall of house.

Oldest muli-grafted Cherimoya

cont. oldest Cherimoya multi-grafted

Older Cherimoya seedling that has been multi-grafted and had been frozen to ground back in early 90's but that one a two more came back.

Mexicloa grande tree that I stumped one trunk so I can multi-graft new shoots. Wife likes to mosaic stuff so I have to sleep with one eye open ;)

Another Mexicola grande multi-grafted in Jan.

Scott,

congrats!!
thanks for sharing pics!!

I'd love to trade you for some scions of your inca gold!!
I suppose it's a lucuma de Palo(gold fruit, revered by incas, moist flesh, can be grown at lower elevations)?  not de seda(the dry fleshed high altittiude type)

where did u score that lucuma??

Adam, the Inca gold was a seedling that I picked up at a Calif. Rare fruit conference in Orange County I believe it was from Fullerton Arboretum they have a tree there. Sure we can trade no problem Pm me. I'm hoping it's the moist one the other seedling that's next to it in pic is taller and maybe the drier type? won't know until it fruits.

Scott,

thanks for the info...I believe you have what I'm after.  The variety name fits perfectly, matching the description...being gold colored and linked to the Incas.

look at this link.

Thanks Robert!

I grafted about 6 plants...5 on lucuma rootstocks, and 1 on a ross sapote rootstock ( I really hope they're compatible).  I'm really happy I had some lucuma rootstocks sitting around from a year ago, when I got fruits from Ben's Plants, (CA).

The scions looked great...and this tree was just as easy to graft as canistel.

Just for the record, the variety you have, should be Lucuma de Seda, (not de Palo).  The article we both referenced actually contradicts itself...accidentally calling Lucuma de Seda, the variety that comes from the highlands.

So now, I'm really eager to see if we can fruit Lucuma de Seda, from the lowlands of Peru, in FL!

thanks again!!  I'll keep u posted if any grafts take!

Thanks Robert!

I wasn't in the mood to take any chances!  I went with the graft I use the most...a simple cleft on all 6 grafts.

Here are a few others I did.
