Banana problem
« on: October 15, 2015, 01:55:40 PM »
The mailman just delivered a package containing a blue java (ice cream) banana plant :D I've got a few different tropicals already, but this is my first banana plant so I'm kinda lost. The main leaf stem is bent and looks like it's going to die. Do I need to just contact the person I got it from and have them send me another, or is it something that I can save on my own?

At the La Verne Nursery tour 2 weeks ago they showed us a whole section of banana plants that they had cut down to the ground because they didn't sell last year, and they didn't want them to get too big. The plants just came up from the ground again.

Haha, that's good to know. I have a decent green thumb, but my husband kills plants just by looking at them (perfectly illustrated by my thriving satsuma, and his dead ponderosa lemon). He'll be happy to know we have at least one thing that he can claim without killing in a week.
