Mango Grove freeze recovery. What steps are you taking?

(1/8) > >>

nsequitur:
I covered with such effort and used an incandescent bulb, but just finished unwrapping it tonight and all leaves are dry and the ends of the stems are shriveled.

Should I try and trim off the worst or let it ride?

I’m so dismayed I may just grow in pots from now on.

Julian R:
Worst thing you can do right now is prune. Let it sit and watch as it recovers. If you notice any of the dead/dying branches causing any rot issues later then prune but I would just leave everything personally (unless its causing issues).

DocTropical:
Julian - when you describe rot, what exactly are you seeing in the branches? How do you know rot is present inside a branch?

Galatians522:
Just leave the trees alone. The dead leaves proved cover for the wood underneath. The worst thing you can do is cut the dead leaves off while there is still a chance for cold weather. When all danger of frost has passed trim back to live wood. One way to identify the live wood is by looking at the leaves. If the leaves fall off on their own the wood is probably still alive and is preparing to push new buds. If the wood is dead the leaves cling tight and dry with the branch.

Branches turn black and oozy looking, then it kind of crawls down the whole section
