fast growing good climbing fruit trees

(1/1)

TheVeggieProfessor:
H everyone! My breadfruit tree (about 3 years old) was just getting to the point where my kids could climb it, but the cold snap did away with it. What are some other options for a good climbing tree that is fast growing and gives off a nice yield? I do not like ice cream bean. Jackfruit grows fast, but not great for climbing - maybe if I try to grow it as a multi-trunked tree versus a central leader? Open to any ideas - thanks!

Love the fruit and the tree. But does it get sturdy enough to climb? Every one I have seen has had weeny-ish branches (for lack of a better word!)

Coconut Cream:
Mammea Americana can be a vigorous tree that reaches a large size. My Choquette avocado has outpaced the growth of all my other avocado trees and many other fruit trees. But either of those will still take some years before you have a tree you can really climb. If you want faster results while your kids are still kids, Cecropia or Jackfruit take off quickly and get big.

Rob From Sydney:
Panama berry can get pretty big. You got me thinking of an old youtube video I watched. It's a 360 video, skin to 13:30 to see the massive panama berry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ilyzOg-aKM

Also, I recommend a seedling mulberry as those get massive and I have been climbing them as long as I can remember. They grow pretty fast and for the first couple of years you pick the fruit off the tree then after that you'll be climbing.
