You can use a vice grip. Adjust it so when closed it fits the seed exactly, open it, tighten it a tiny bit, close, open, tighten, etc until it cracks. Whether it's necessary though idk. I've cracked Pouteria seeds and had them not sprout, have had non-cracked ones sprout. When in doubt I don't crack.

I don't know why they wouldn't. Your climate isn't that different.

https://www.tradewindsfruit.com/kadsura-coccinea-kadsura-seeds $0.80/seed. I had decent germination from them.

Pretty sure that's a wine, not a variety of Jaboticaba. I think they use regular red Jaboticaba to make it
Looks like maybe a coronata:

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Anyone growing out Mouriri?

I got 3 of the M. pusa seedlings from Bellamy, 2 of which survived transplanting. They're doing fine. Got them back in August, and I don't think they've put out any new growth yet. I left them outside, somewhat sheltered, so they definitely have some cold tolerance. One of them is getting ready to grow at least. They withstood a lot of sun.

In California there are a lot on Craigslist. Some free when grow ops are getting rid of a bunch of pots, usually 2g or 5g IIRC. I've also seen some dealers on Craigslist with prices for various sizes. Doesn't look like there's much of that in Broward County area.

#1 does kinda look like a red, so AxP is believable.
#2 squamiflora? (never would've guessed that without the clue)
#3 Plinia edulis?

All of them should get more distinct with age. Especially squamiflora.

I have already fruited Diploconos. It has a resiny citrus flavor. The fruit is like the size of a kumquat. It may be ok to juice, but its definitely not tier A or B fruit. Its more like a tier C with nice ornamental value.
Thanks for the honest review. I'm getting tired of being burned by solanums that all turn out to be gross.

A question about Psidium cauliflorum: can anyone describe the taste of its fruit? I found the botanical description, but nothing about its taste.
Not always true, but if the sellers don't mention the taste, it probably isn't any good.

Received, thank you

Wait until the roots will keep the soil together, push the sides in a bit, should slide out easily. If the root ball falls apart, it should have stayed in the pot longer. The hard part is finding pots to move up to. From 4x14 treepot I go to 5 gallon round pots.

Seeds don't need a phytosanitary certificate, just a small lots permit.

I tried some wild ones. Tasted awful, all skin and no flesh, very tannic. The main hybrid is "Roger's red". It's a riparian species.

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: What variety of apple are these?
« on: January 09, 2024, 03:20:57 PM »
I googled it:

Rockit Apples are a mix between a Gala and Gala Splendor apple. They were created without the use of GMOs. They are bright yellow as the base color but then have dark and light red blush overtop. They also have a light tan and white lenticels covering the skin as well.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Is this lucuma, canistel, or … ?
« on: January 09, 2024, 11:32:29 AM »
Very little chance you'd find lucuma in a shop. Looks like canistel. I wouldn't graft lucuma onto canistel, since lucuma would be a good rootstock, just a bit hard to find.

Looks like a failed graft. Does yours have a graft union?

Probably the cold. I got a Pereskia grandiflora that's been losing all its leaves and looking terrible from the cold. And some seedlings of it that died back sooner. The leaves basically melted.

Did you try the leaves Ryan? I heard they were good on bleo. I tried the fruit of grandiflora. Bad. Slimy, not sweet, kinda salty iirc.

Maybe miracle fruit.

Mine are healthy, but they're the non-wavy-leaf ones. It's a bit suspicious tbh, they look like a different species. They look like E. myrcianthes, with more elongated leaves, and more silvery new growth. They had some dieback when young until I put them all in full sun, no issues since. I think they want full sun basically from the time they sprout.

Hi Nate,

You aren’t the only one that said theirs did better under full sun. https://m.facebook.com/search_results/?q=Eugenia+beaurepairiana+Wavy Also in this discussion is the information that there are 2 vars of this species, one with a wavy leaf called rugosa and a regular leaf variety.
Yeah that was me lol. At first it was just a few of them, but the ones I tried to baby by putting in the shade did worse. They really wilt on hot summer days, but no damage.

Idk, I hope mine are the real deal, but they really don't look like the same species as what y'all have been posting. Sorry, not sure how to resize the image:
