Sticky resin on leaf of young mango plant
« on: February 25, 2022, 02:53:55 PM »
There is some sticky resin on leaves of two of my young mango plants. You can see it on the lower leaves in the photo below. Any ideas on what it might be?

Looks like guttation to me.  I used to have this on my container citrus in my old greenhouse.  Guttation is harmless, but double-check the undersides of the leaves to be sure you don't actually have a scale infestation.

Thank you. No scales. So, it's harmless? Should I wipe it off?

Yes, harmless.  I guess it could be a substrate for sooty mold but I never had that issue personally.

If it is easy to wipe off go ahead.  You can flake it off and eat it too, as a curiosity, it tastes like sugar.

How funny. Check out the post by LoveToPlant.  His mango was doing the same, and yes, it is guttation.  Wonder if it's the time of year...

Cheers,
Carolyn

Yes it is indeed.  My mango's leaves are starting to have this sticky stuff now.  I guess the soil is too wet and too much moisture in the air inside my GH.  It's now 80-90 % RH inside the GH.  Special thanks to Daintree for pointing out the problem.

I sprayed the affected leaves with water until sticky substances started to dissolve.
