Hello all, I am on my way to grab a grafted GA866 jujube tree which is currently dormant now.  One of the nursery has few different sizes of trees in a 15 gallon containers with trunk 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inch thick and height 5-7 feet.  Call you please share your thoughts on what to look when I try to buy a tree. I would really appreciate any of your suggestions. Thank you very much.

Regards,

Sri

a lot of things to consider-

will you plant in ground or grow in containers? If planting in ground a good rule of thumb is to go for the smaller trees as their root systems are unlikely to be affected by the pots-

if the long term plan is to grow in containers, the bigger the better

Thanks for the response.  Yes. Planning to grow in a container.  just found someone selling a 5G tree for $50.  3/4inch trunk & around 4 feet tall.  Hope that’ll work.  Thinking to plant it in a 15 g container & move it to a 25 gal after few years.  Does it makes sense?

I bought a HJ for sale for $40, it’s in a 15-gallon container right now. It’s leafing out. That’s all I have room for now. I’ll be glad to get some fruit this year.

Last year I did have 3x1 in a 22-gallong container, I separated them, gave one away, so the Empress Gee and Autumn Beauty are both in 15-gallon container. That’s all I have room for right now. Autumn Beauty did have a lot of fruit last year because it’s in full sun.

Nice.  How will you rate the autumn Beauty’s taste?  Also, may know from where you got the honey jar.  $40 is a steal.
