Do any bananas taste unlike bananas?
« on: May 12, 2014, 02:53:36 PM »
Maybe it's a strange question but I don't particularly care for the taste of bananas although I like the plants. I am wondering if any edible (when raw) banana varieties have a taste unlike the regular banana taste? I know some cultivars have subtle taste variations but that's not what I'm talking about.

Put another way, are there any varieties where if you put them in the blender and drank them as a smoothie, you might not recognize it as being banana?

Possibly the dwarf red...to me it tastes like a banana but taste is much stronger with a different nuance and a slight nice musky flavor when fully ripe.  Don't get me wrong, its still a banana just a bit different than your "ordinary" banana taste.

Cool just planted a dwarf red a couple weeks ago.  Picked up a Sweatheart FHIA 3 and another unexpected mango. All from Excalibur, thanks again, Rob!

That's good to hear; I was expecting the manzanas to be one of the least banana-y bananas based on what I've read about it. I'll have to try to find a fruit around here.
