Tropical Fruit Discussion / Help identify this cherimoya/ atemoya
« on: April 04, 2025, 03:24:56 PM »
Came across a new asian grocery that just opened in Northern CA. Was wondering if anyone can help identify this annona. Sold as cherimoya but looks to me like an atemoya.

Its 2.3 lb, will update taste later.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Gelatin Guava
« on: January 31, 2025, 08:52:16 PM »
Found these guavas at the asian market. I was surprised when cutting it open, the center is soft like gelatin or jam. Flavor of guava is quite good. The very yellow one (far right) has sweetness, but not overly sweet. Flesh is both soft and crunchy, hard to explain. I plan on planting these seeds and see if fruits will be gelatin like also when ripe.

I can literally lick the center away.

The harder part (not center) has slight juice.

I've never had guava like this one before.

Has anyone seen guava with gelatin like center before?

Citrus General Discussion / Citrus in ground VS wine barrel
« on: January 29, 2025, 01:14:26 AM »
I have a sumo, gold nugget, owari, kishu, and clementine that i want to plant either in half wine barrel or in ground. The dilemma is that i like to plant fruit trees where the landscape still looks nice and not a messy jungle. I am out of space and planting in ground will make my front yard look like a jungle.

I notice fruits like fig and guava does not taste as good in pot compared to ground.

I am wondering if quality of fruit for citrus also differs when grown in pot vs ground.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Identify this guava
« on: January 23, 2025, 11:54:30 PM »
Bought this from asian market, first time seeing this type. Inside is white, soft variety. I never tasted mexican cream, but inside looks like it.

Taste is good, not the sweetest soft variety i had before,  subtle sweetness.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / First arabian white guava fruit...is pink!
« on: November 22, 2024, 11:07:51 PM »
Bought Arabian White Guava seedling from Clausen's Nursery. The smallest fruit dropped early and skin slightly rubbery. I cut fruit open and it is pink! I assume mother fruit was cross pollinated with a pink guava and resulted in this tree. So far the taste isnt too bad, not super sweet like how a true Arabian white Guava is suppose to be ( i never tasted one, only read about it). Hoping the bigger fruits and future fruits on the tree will be sweeter.

Note: I used Thai Ruby pollen to pollinate Arabian Guava tree, but that shouldnt change a white fruit to pink....right?

I know an apple is not tropical, but most active is this category in the forum. An apple fruit has leaves growing out of it. Does not appear to be from inside the fruit, but on surface of skin. Anyone seen this before or know whats happening?
