Hey hey,

Been really keen on trying this fruit before potentially attempting to grow it. If anyone is growing the fruit or can point me in a specific direction, would love to buy a small sample amount!

There are some retailed fruit growers who have it, but they don't ship to california.

Thanks in advance!

Does my rootstock look like C35?

I'm not sure what C-35 leaves look like, maybe someone else can answer that. But it's definitely either trifoliate or some trifoliate hybrid like citrange (C-35, Carrizo, etc), and Eureka is incompatible with most of those. Did you happen to save the original nursery tags or photograph them? The rootstock is sometimes coded on them (e.g., if it has CZO in the code then that's Carrizo).

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Year-round Mamey Sapote

Have you found a good low elevation  variety of Cholul for  below 800 ft in Hawaii?
I have noticed that as well

That’s right Fruitgrower,

Green sapote are very nice. We have Poamoho and Makawao ( Hawaiian selections). Finer texture than mamey, easier to ascertain ripeness as their skin turns orange. For us they start in January and we still have some on our big old tree. Unfortunately at low elevation here the texture is poor when the fruit is allowed to get fully orange on the tree so these late fruits are not so good to eat. But yes, put green sapote in for Jan-Feb. add Lara and Jamaica and we’re good for year round fruits. Thanks!

Took me a while to watch, due to pausing a lot, as didn't want to miss a moment. Great video eyeckr, and your greenhouse is magnificent Brian! The hanging bonsais really add a wonderful touch and feel to the view. Will be great to see updates and your progress over time. Best of luck and thanks for sharing!!!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Himalayan Mulberries

Interesting, Sangue e Latte grafts seem normal in Italy and in the rest of the Mediterranean, it's also a strong grower as a rootstock.

Kaz, how does Dmor9 compare to Red Himalayan please?

Here’s my Eureka with a Ponkan and a key lime next to it for size reference. All were purchased at the same time but the Eureka just always lagged behind all the others.  I will try some other type of citrus per your chart. Does my rootstock look like C35?

Citrus General Discussion / Re: New Zealand lemonade vs Meyer lemon
« Last post by sheaper on Today at 12:58:19 PM »
I have eaten Both fresh picked NZL's and fresh picked Meyer's  NZL are sweeter and much less sour than Meyer lemon.  NZL lemons can be eaten out of hand.  Meyer lemons are said to eat the enamel of your teeth at half the speed of of a eureka lemon.  NZL lemons are not good for cooking and the peal is sweet with a mild bitter after taste.  If you are looking to eat out of hand the NZL is the only choice.  If you are looking for use in drinks and cooking go Meyer.

How does NZL compare to sanbokan?

I would say that sanbokan is a decent comparison to NZL.  I have eaten both recently from trees in my backyard and would put NZL higher in this category as far as eating out of hand...its great. My kids and i think it tastes like Chick Fil A lemonade straight up.

The Sanbokan peels and segments easier but there are much more seeds and the flavor is more grapefruity but with a similar lemon taste like NZL.  The flesh is very similar as well.
