We're selling our 2 large Montrose Peruvian Apple Cacti if anyone is interested for local pickup on Pine Island. They are both fruiting and pollinate each other. They aren't looking the greatest right now from going through Ian (see last photo) but will recover when planted. They also can be propagated very easily from cutting.

Luckily only some of my rare collection were affected, but my banana fences are gone and a lot of down fruit trees. Hope Pine island is back to normal soon because that's my go to for fresh fruit being so close to me. Hope everyone on the island is in good health. Cheers.
It'll take most a few years to bounce back but no doubt they will do it. Sorry to hear you had to experience this too, was not fun. A lot of people lost their lives so really for me to complain about anything else would be petty. Grateful to be alive!

My wife saw him posting Facebook videos of his farm. He made it through, our good buddy dwfl made it as well.

Every farm dog I have seen usually eats all three, if the farm grows it. Most seem to live normal length lives.
Grapes being poisonous to dogs is a complete myth. If anything they'd choke to death on a seeded grape, barring that nobody has ever identified a toxic compound in grapes that is deadly to pooches.

Prefer the flavor of Reds and Cavendish types. I don't mind a few Pitogo or Praying Hands but I don't want to gobble them down like i do bananas with the banana pudding like flavor and texture like the reds possess.

« on: July 19, 2022, 10:00:18 PM »Hello from what I have read on multiple other fruit forums regarding growing cecropia in the state of Florida is I would advise NOT to grow a male cecropia tree.
In the nursery trade, the is a reason why only FEMALE cecropia plants are sold. It's because if males are sold then they would pollinate the female and then seedy cecropia seedlings start to become invasive in Florida just like it is in Hawaii right now.
I have read that from other posts such as Tropical fruit forums on Facebook in Florida.
The female plants produce only fruits with no seeds, therefore, no worries about invasive spreading - if male cecropia is introduced this can be a problem - It was even a problem for a Florida Botanical Garden in Sarasota who actually collected samples of Cecropia male and female from another country and now they had to remove the cecropia trees because they were seeding everywhere around the garden like weeds.
I appreciate the concern but I won't bring upon us Cecropia Armageddon

I found one for sale on eBay from what seems to be a reputable seller. No experiences of my own however to base that on. You can inquire regarding the sex of the plant.
Cecropia Peltata (Yagrumo). Live one gallon size 2FT+tree is the selling title - user is selva_amazonica
I also see it is available through the Florida Nursery Mart (https://www.flnurserymart.com/products/trees-palms/cecropia/) out of Cooper City, FL. Never purchased from them but its all I can see available online at the moment.
Both are pricey. Facebook user Krystal Pitt posted a video eating the fruit in the Florida Tropical Fruit Growers facebook group, you could always inquire about cuttings if you choose to do so. Best of luck! Keep me posted if you have success, would love to have it in my collection as well if you prune it.
Thanks for the info but it seems as these are female plants. Already have a producing female. I'll let you know if we get around to propagating her.
