Denzel white sapote pollination?
« on: September 14, 2022, 09:07:36 PM »
I just planted a Denzel white sapote tree. I understand they don't seem to be self pollinating? Does it mean I need another variety near it for pollination, or do I need to hand pollinate? I'm a bit new to fruit trees in general and I'm a bit confused about this. Thank you very much!

I have never heard of a white sapote requiring hand pollination. I suspect your lack of fruit is due to the fact that the tree is newly planted. Often times a freshly planted fruit tree will take a year or two to establish a root system before it begins to bear.

I believe the variety is spelled Denzler, rather than Denzel.

I have never grown that variety of White Sapote, but I can tell you that they fruit better with another variety for pollination.
