Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Grafting Che to Mulberry
« on: January 15, 2022, 01:25:07 PM »
On etsy, there were lots of osage seeds cheap. Somehow they grew so slow, and will no be ready for grafting any time soon. For the same time, rooted cutting of osage is a perfect rootstock now.

I grafted che only on osage orange. I need to try to root che cuttings, just for fun. I know osage scions root like crazy. I ordered 2 osage rootstocks. Cut off tops rooted so fast. Seems easier than growing them from seeds.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Starfruit- Anyone Growing It ?
« on: October 27, 2021, 08:51:07 AM »
Here, people say: a one starfruit tree will feed you, your family, your neighbors and co-workers.
I have Kari variety. It gets deep orange color, large fruit, very sweet, fruits twice a year from size of 3ft, loaded with fruits and flowers now. I never liked them from stores until i tried from someone's garden. Huge difference.

I would love to grow them but they need more chill hours than we have. Its hard to find a good quince in florida, they are mostly too hard and not good. Ideally they are chewy and juicy. They are deep yellow color when ripe. I was able to buy a few good ones recently at fancy fruit and produce

I am not sure what wooden apple is but there is nothing better than ripe quince. It has unique taste and smell.

If i walked into a store with all fruits available and had to buy only 5, i would get:
Sugar apple
Quince
Persimmon
Poms
Lychee

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Fungal disease on new flushes?
« on: October 19, 2021, 09:54:56 PM »
I have the same issue with a few potted trees, not citrus. I tried sprays, replanting in different soil, fertilizers, macros, part shade, full sun... Nothing works.

This plant deserves a chance!
It could give you great quality fruit without grafting.
My 1lb squamosa from seed

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sugar apple or not

Please help identifying the fruit.
I bought it in the local store as sugar apple.
Texture is creamy and nothing chewy. Very fragrant. A little grainy right near skin Seeds look just like cherimoya seeds.
I thought it was taiwan gold sugar apple, and wanted to plant, but now not sure.

You can keep it inside the entire winter if it's too small.
I don't think they require chill hours

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: Multi-graft persimmon tree.
« on: August 28, 2021, 03:03:26 PM »
Some on older some on last year wood. Multi graft was not a plan. It just happened because rootstocks arrived very skinny and scions were much thicker. So i grafted on my trees. Some wood was so hard to keep cleft tight. I didn't think it would work.

I grafted on fuyu: saijo, coffee cake, izu, chocolate
I grafted on hachiya: saijo and coffee cake.
I did it when rootstocks were waking up and when they had leaves. I tried bud grafting and cleft. I tried with fresh scions and the refrigerated for a few weeks.  all took. I have all kind of troubles with annonas grafting but persimmons and asian pears had no issues.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Gold sugar apple
« on: August 24, 2021, 02:08:39 PM »
I have seen pics of sugar apples that are very yellow and bigger than regular sugar apple. People call them thai gold sa. There is nothing on the internet about them. I can't find seeds either. I have na dai and thai lessard but they never get that gold color. Is any one familiar with them?
