Myrcia pallens is the binomial, which is now considered a synonym of Myrcia guianensis

I thought I would collect the bloom time for cultivars of Actinidia chinensis in one place, since it's hard to find such data online. This data is important for growers who need to select the right male for their chosen female. If people have personal experience, please PM any data and I'll update it to this post. Perhaps a good approach to guesstimating uniqueness can by phylogenetics. Monotypic species (that is, species that are the only species in their genus) have no close living relatives making them unique plants. That doesn't necessarily guarantee that their flavor compounds will also be unique, but it could be a first step.

Some monotypic species from my head or a quick google search: caper, quince, bael (Aegle marmelos), brazilnut, saguaro fruit, kelubi, toyon, elephant apple, oso berry, osage orange (seed kernals are edible), jamaica cherry, nipa, and tamarin

Actually lychee is in a genus of its own, yet I think the flavor is similar to grape.

Strawberry is quite unique I would say (no, strawberry guava is nothing like it) and banana flavor too. Also don't forget the little balls of mint-toothpaste put out by Australia's midyim berry. But since there are hundreds of thousands of fruiting species in nature, there must inevitably be a lot overlap.. I think the OP mean just among the common and semi-rare fruits that we know.

It would be a lot less confusing for the forum if you referred to this species using the more common appellation of "wooly leaf sapote." It's more green than yellow, and isn't in the Sapotaceae family.

While P. campechiana is called canistel, it is also very much associated with the term yellow sapote, for good reason.

Such a shame that there is confusion on the scientific name...it is now a. parvus when researchers in Indonesia named it last year.

This is no such shame. In an age of rapid dissemination of information, there is no excuse for people to not get with the program.

The issue was sorted in 2020 and the researchers were Americans, who had to deal with mislabeled/mixed materials in herbaria. They used phylogenetics to put this beyond doubt, I think only a clerical error could result in some unexpected change now.

The Artocarpus genus is blessed to have such competent researchers in Gardner and Zerega. The real shame is Garcinia. Sure, a bit harder due to the dioeciousness, but the researchers are duds in my book. I'd sooner have faith in Patrick Swayze than Patrick Sweeney.

Natural History Publishers of Borneo will release a book on Artocarpus in the near future.

I think it is about time wikipedia had a photo for its article on Artocarpus parvus. Tree or fruit or both. It doesn't have to be professional but has to be original work.
