Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Free big Longan trees...
« Last post by Pouteria_fan on Today at 04:33:21 PM »
This is not my post, I found it on Facebook, supposedly it's in Garden Grove, and is around two stories tall.

Title to search for is "Fruit Trees Logan"

I know there are some members here that will dig up very large trees, these might take the cake

Just harvested a ton of mangoes today, I’ll have mangoes available for a few more days. Last call if you want to grab some before they are gone. The flavor profile is amazing this season, don’t miss out😊🥭

Thank you to those who purchased already!

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Yangmei on Sale ---> WEEE
« Last post by brad on Today at 04:01:52 PM »
I don't think anyone here wants to start or thinks it's possible to start a fortune 500 yangmei company, but I bet a lot of people (including myself) would be interested in starting a small scale orchard as a means to make enough to survive haha

Sounds like that is within reach for less than the average home in my area  :-X

I think by far the biggest problem is risk, firstly you risk literally not even being able to keep the trees alive, then you risk water regulation changing and you can't irrigate anymore, if you make it past the pests and challenges to get fruit then you have 5 days after hand picking before it's mush and unsellable.  Finally you face competing orchards once more people figure out how to grow them.  Look at the price avocados sold for in California in the 80s and 90s before the market finally corrected due to the flood of fruit from Mexico.

I really enjoy reading through these sorts of threads for folks thoughts and opinions as well

Orange CORG fruiting nice. I have two trees, one barely fruits. Maybe will need to top work.

Thanks to JohnB51 for these lovely mangoes.

Ok, this isn't in my yard or on the ranch, it's a client I work for, but this is the best performing mango I have seen in CA by far. It is Manila. Sticky clay soil???

Same client, I grafted Hass from the ranch successfully on his stump suckers.

I deliver avos from the ranch to one of Santa Barbara's best restaurants weekly. This is their "grilled avocado" dish they make with it. It's called Barbareño. Not cheap, but worth a stop. I also sold blood orange to them for a period of time.

I arranged for CalAvo to pick the orchard clean tomorrow, 10,000lb is the guess.

Bins

Ok, another not at ranch pic, this is a Kevin Jones "Nelita" I planted at the office park I work at. Fruits prolifically solo, but I'll probably graft it for better size.

Pitanga going nuts at the office park.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / WTS/WTT G1 Mamey Sapote 3gal
« Last post by cgbills on Today at 03:44:17 PM »
I bought this 3 gallon Guatemalan (G1) mamey from Xain’s world about a month ago. It is doing well and has already kicked out new growth. I am looking to sell or trade because I decided I just don’t want to devote space to another Mamey. I got it from him for $65 but will let it go for $50. Also maybe willing to trade for other fruit trees (been on a jabo kick recently). Located in Vero Beach

Perhaps when supply outstrips demand, we will see a price decrease in these fruit, but they are selling out within hours suggesting they could charge more.
I hope no one gets the impression that agriculture is a wealth generating economy.  Most of us do this as a hobby, but if you are looking to build a Fortune 500 company, I would discourage you from farming.
I appreciate the civil discourse in this thread.  With all the yang Mei growing failures, we need the support group for sanity.

Nsequitur, nice to see a fellow mango grower in Orlando. PM me anytime.

I have a medium sized M4 tree, and it is pretty loaded. A few days ago I inspected some of my largest fruit and the stems were shriveled and dry. I picked them and they had either no sap or minimal clear sap; one was so ready that it fell down when I gently picked an adjacent fruit.

This is the first year fruiting for this tree so I don’t know what to expect. That being said, my M4 flowered along with most all of my other typical mid season mangos; it did not bloom late by any means.

Hoping these ripen nicely. I’ll report back to this thread when I eat the fruit no matter what.

Pics of the some of the M4 I picked:

2025 is shaping up to be a pretty good year. I have really solid fruit set and the avocados are sizing up ahead of the normal schedule. I don't remember Choquette getting this big this early before.

Just received my Garnet cuttings, thanks Kevin!

It's ovahhhhh! No mas! The Jamaica Mamey I got from Lara is officially dead. One year in a pot and one month in the ground. I'm going to replace it with a solid 3 gallon Jamaica that I got from Xain. The grafted Mameys that I got from Xain have been much more sturdy and ready to go.
