Temperate Fruit Discussion / Persimmons Graft Question
« on: May 12, 2022, 12:48:31 PM »
Hi group! I re-did a Persimmons graft maybe a few weeks ago and had the pot in shade on a table. The little green bud was swelling and I was watching it every day, most excitedly. Well, mysteriously the bud was picked off likely by my kids or their friend that came over. I'm pretty devastated. Unfortunately since I already re-did the graft there isn't enough rootstock left to re-graft this year and I will have to let a new sucker grow.

My question is, is there any possibility the node will push a new bud? There are no other nodes on this graft. I got a bit into reading about axillary buds and that some plants have more than one bud per node, and others are "spent" after pushing green growth. I guess I wanted to confirm this is a total fail at this point.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / FOUND

EDITED: Found Loquat seeds, & some Australian Green scion. Thanks!

Hoping to locate Australian Green Mulberry cuttings for sale (within the US only). Try me on trades, but unfortunately I have a young garden and my collection doesn't near match what so many of you have. I do have a few neat things tucked in there including a few dozen figs and multiple varieties of Prickly Pear originally from the Germplasm Repository in Parlier, CA (sourced from Fruitwood Nursery where they were named the Desert series). I also have a nice collection of garden seed (herbs/veggies/flowers).

Did anyone go? I made it down and it was my first time tasting Cherimoya. I should have known it would be a blind tasting. Padi registrations received boxes of fruit to take home, which we hand picked. I tried to get a veriety. I have no idea what is what though!! I would appreciate any help in trying to ID these. I have been trying to find old posts or old photos of the past tastings with fruit labeled to try and figure it out. I believe that our favorite tastings were El Bumpo and Oxheart, would love help from the Cherimoya gurus!! This tasting was fun as we had a tour of their orchard and got to pick Persimmons after. For those who regularly attend, they did say that due to timing of this event (which was the first in December) that they had some varieties that have no been offered at tastings in the past. Lastly, any advice on determing peak ripeness?

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / WTB: Mango seeds
« on: September 18, 2019, 01:29:20 PM »
Looking for mango seeds from good cultivars like Lemon Zest, Sweet Tart, Sugar Loaf, PPK, Coconut Cream, Pickering, etc. Iím still learning about mango varieties so tell me what youíve got! I get plenty of heat here. Not terribly picky as I am looking for rootstocks primarily, but I hope to let a few grow to fruit themselves before grafting to see what turns up. Not interested in common varieties I can buy in the store.

Someone just clued me in its the end of the season, but Iím still interested for next year. Seeds only, no fruit. Willing to drive to pick up.

Looking for Cherimoya seeds. Hoping to grow rootstock for grafting later, if not letting a few go to fruit on their own.

Also would be interested in plants if available in CA.
