figs, grapes and powdery mildew

I am considering getting a Violette de Bourdeaux fig tree and crimson grape plant, but I am hesitating because I live near the coast and my understanding is that both figs and grapes are highly susceptible to powdery mildew, which I've had a big problem with here when trying to grow some plants - mainly zucchinis - I simply can't grow them. Powdery mildew always totally decimates the plants and they produce almost nothing. I've tried all the solutions from sprays made with home ingredients to sulfur and nothing has made a difference. Does this mean it's probably too risky for me to bother with any kind of plant highly susceptible to mildew? Anyone living in a coastal region have experience with this they could share?

I’m near the coast too and if you pick the right variety of zucchini they don't mildew. Last year and this year my zucchini plants dont have mildew.
I have Vdb, i dont have mildew either. However, i get some mildew with my roses, not all, just a few varieties.

I also live close to coast as well but my VDB does not get affected at all with powdery mildew (PM). In fact, most of the figs are not affected by PM. I had grapes which were significantly affected by powdery mildew but you can choose some of the PM resistant varieties
