I feel like the campbell's were sent out too early but the mangos I bought via mail-order from Lara Farms in the past were probably some of the largest 3gallons I'd ever seen, it's a bummer that they wouldn't at least offer a discount on a replacement given the circumstances to at least accept partial responsibility that these were very young.

I'm glad we're all having a similar experience, albeit not always great, at least I take comfort in knowing I'm not blundering my first white sapote growing attempt.
Yeah I wish they would have offered a discount at least but it is what it is. I’m also glad I’m not the only one. The rootstock itself is doing well so at least I have some kind of white sapote I can try grafting on later.  :)

The Campbell white sapote from Julian is fairly priced at $45 plus shipping. I have purchased 2 plants, one last year and second one on 3/6/24. The grafted tree is old enough to ship, looks to me the graft is maybe 9 months to 1 year old. The graft union is healed so there is nothing wrong with the trees he is selling and shipping out.

Maybe this variety could be a slow grower or depending on the seedling rootstock it grows a little slower than other white sapotes. I germinate a lot of seedling white sapotes plants and they don't grow much the first year, by the second year it will be much better size.

Here's the photos I said I would take of my two plants purchased from Lara farms.

@Stephiebby sorry to hear that. A lot of the high demand 1 gal grafts from Lara have been young. Personally, I have not had one fail. Hope my current one hangs in there. Still has a few leaves. I wonder what the root stock Lara uses for white sapote?
I hope yours is one of the lucky ones and makes it! 😊🤞

To follow up on my comments above, here's how large my 1 year old seedling Younghan's Gold plants are now. These seeds were planted on 1/13/23.

How is everyone doing with growth of the Campbell?

I got a small 3 gallon from Xains 2 months ago and it has not grown at all so far...

My Campbell seems healthy but is growing much slower than a Redlands I have, grafted locally, which is growing at twice the rate. Maybe slow growth is unique to Campbell or to the rootstock used?

I bought 2 from Xain's. The one I got last summer as a 3 gallon is now busting out of a 7 gallon pot and needs to go in the ground ASAP.

The 3 gallon I got last month is doing nicely. The Campbell seems to be a vigorous grower.

I have another White Sapote that completely defoliated about a month ago and then flushed back out completely within a week. I think that's a vulnerable time for the very small/young trees.

I have 2 Campbells from Lara and Xains and both are very slow growing, i would say struggling in pots and  ground. Other varieties did not do it. I wonder if they need some extra iron or more acidic soil.

Do you keep them in shade? Have you changed anything with the 3 gallon?

Dappled light until the graft completely hardens off and then full sun after up-potting. Campbell has outgrown the other varieties for me (Younghan's, Fruit Hunter, Denzler).

Graft died but whatever the root stock is, I have that mystery variety! I love a good surprise fruit. LOL!!! Any guesses as to what it may be? Redlands??? Pre-ordered another Campbell a few months ago. :)

Bummer! White Sapote does not come true to seed. So, you can name your rootstock whatever you want or use it for grafting.

Xain suggested to spray some Iron and give it more sun

So I sprayed and added liquid iron to the pot...

It makes sense since White Sapotes are of the citrus family and my Mayer lemon loves iron..

Fingers crossed...

Amel, is that pine bark just a top mulch or is the pot filled with it?

Xain uses a very loose potting mix with lots of pine bark fines.

Citrus and cactus mix should be a good soil to pot them in.

The guy is too eager to sell. He needs to let his grafts heal longer before selling. He is going to ruin his rep. If this guy gets enough 50/50 reviews he is going to suffer.

Bark as a top mulch is ok. Was hoping that was just on the top and filled with it.

Well well well, I am not sure if its just the time of the season, we also did have a lot of rain lately (I do water my pants by hand), or the additional iron and epsom salt, but all my White Sapotes are throwing new growth. The Campbell was on its last legs, but I see a small offshoot emerging.

Interesting mine started pushing a new growth after rain sas well. I thought i over water it but it looks like it loves those rains...

If it likes rain water, does it hate my tap water? Wondering if the yellowing of all the leaves I am experiencing on my white sapotes is the chlorine in my tap water...
