Yeah. I didn't know about it until recently i.e. today. As far as I know it is not in production in any areas of China. Do you have any other information about it?

I suspect that there are several Loquat varieties that we are missing out on in the US. Same with Longans and lychees. We can fund a gain of function project ( :-X :-X :o :o ;D ;D ;D)but can't get the department of Ag to do what they did 100 years ago and bring back plants for us to grow. Hahaha. Who ready for a road trip?

The Novak variety can have multiple blooms which can lead to late season harvest. Scion wood is available at AMKE Gardens, but it doesn't look these guys have received a positive review since 2022.

I left that Novak review in September, when they sent the scion after a couple of months of waiting. I didn't know much about grafting back then but that was way too late to send scions and I lost my rootstock as well as the graft when it didn't grow so I've had to start over sadly. I want to experiment with Novak grafted to quince, I will wait one more year for the quince rootstock to grow then try a graft again.

Ok, I can answer a few loquats question since it is one of my favorite fruits to eat and grow.
1. The Virginia grower(David) is no longer on the forums; he has a large Christmas loquat tree that had the early ripening fruits. I tried to trade for some of his Christmas loquat cuttings but that was the time he decided to drop out of the Citrus forum.
2. So I got other sources for the Christmas loquats, my graft from 2021 or so already has been fruiting since 2022, no special early or late fruiting on it. Neither does Tanaka, Shambala, Novak. These loquats all fruit within 3 months of each other.
3. Best of the bunch is the Tanaka, nice size fruits, firm, smooth skin, and the texture and taste is very good. I'm propagating those on my other loquat trees so I can have more fruits to eat, it's a keeper.
4. Christmas is a very good tasting loquat, much better than Champagne, I would rank it at 8/10, maybe 9/10.

There are a few new loquats from China that is supposed to taste really sweet. I got a scion to graft on my tree from a friend here and so maybe next year we will see how that one taste. For the best tasting large loquats, the Estee is the best so far, gets up to 100 grams. I might sell a few grafted Estee tree later in the year. The owner of the mother tree just cut all the branches way back without telling me so there will not be any scions that I can sell for him. He used it as mulch in his garden. Estee is another strong grower; a graft will grow about 3ft in one year and start to hold fruit by the second year. The Katie grows as vigorous as the Estee, but the most vigorous loquat that I recently grafted is the giant Khaled scions.
If you ever want to share some of your cuttings I'll send money. Lol
Other than the Honey quat I probably don't have anything you have not already collected. I'm trying to get obusa but, it's not going well.

Do loquats respond the same way as mangoes with grafting sapling bud wood to a mature tree? Will seedling loquat bud wood produce fruit sooner if grafted to a mature tree ? Sturock Farms did this with mangoes and was able to select a few varites they liked.

Angel, it will be a few years before any of my new varieties can be shared. I need to taste the fruits first.
The Obusa isn't that great, don't spend to much time looking for it, get the Tanaka loquat, much better tasting. Obusa was a very weak graft on my tree, just like the Moji, got rid of both since I was not impressed with the taste or size of either fruit.

I have never been able to score a Tanaka. I think my Argelino is still kicking ups dust. I need to verify if it has any fruit on it. I think I will start searching for some white varieties. I already have vista white.

We have a loquat flowering in my cousin garden and has fruits right now....
Since we grow loquat from seeds we have many varieties
Most of them just fall from. The tree we have a huge one they grow and we replant them
My cousin one has fruits now and they need like one week to be ripe. Iw would say fruiting depends of two factors
First the variety second the weather

Vista white is supposed to be one of the sweetest.  I'm not a loquat expert so I have not tasted a bunch of different varieties. I hear there is a loquat festival so I'm going to look into that.

Vista White is good, one of the only ones I grow that has a pure white flesh. But there are many other white flesh loquats that are much sweeter. But I must admit the Vista White fruits are unique in shape, large size and I like the taste. But for white flesh I have 5 others that are sweeter than Vista White.

Here's my taste test of the Vista White, brix=18, which is pretty good. Most people would consider this a very sweet loquat, but my KT6-Karen has brix ranging from low of brix=18 to high of brix =30. This is my best white flesh loquat out of the over 100 varieties. So everyone who has the KT6-Karen Kino, please report back your impressions of the fruit taste in a few years. My trees of Vista White and KT6-Karen are over 20yrs old and are established trees.

Angel, when you go to the loquat festival, please let us know what varieties they had and which ones were the favorite of the attendees.

Here's some photos I took of my large Vista White tree with fruits. Anyone reading this, please don't send me a message asking to buy loquat scions from me. I'm done sharing my fruit tree cuttings. I will only trade now with my TFF friends that I made in the last 4 years.

Ok, at the time I took those photos, the Vista White was the best tasting in my collection but now I have many more that surpassed it in sweetest. My seedlings were better but it was not released so I did not mention them.

AngelFruits or anyone else that will attend the Loquat Festival in Florida. If you can give us the report on how it went, take many photos of the loquat fruits and summarize which varieties (orange flesh group, and white flesh group) were the top ones and make a post on the TFF, then I will offer you a few cuttings of this Vista White of mine, you pay the shipping cost.

I hate to say it. I was there last year and the evwnt was not that great and THERE WERE NO LOQUATS TO BE FOUND when I showed up. I bought a very over priced Oliver for 60 bucks. I had planned on trying many and I actually had none. :-[ :-[ :-[.
