Those were selections from Dennis.

I got a bunch of seedlings from Bush2Beach, these are all Silbers aren't they? I will be tearing them out and moving them to the ranch. They grew really well in the soil here on the 154 despite the frost.

Incredible amount of work Kevin, on top of all the other moving work. Great job. At least the timing of the season was perfect for digging everything up and transplanting. Stoked for you and your plants in your new home.

Cool to bear about all the fruiting Kwai Muks in FL and that some can be a tasty fruit. I am surprised there is not one planted at Fruit and Spice park, or maybe there is one in a pot in one of the greenhouses.

Would you rather wait 30 years for a delicious fruit you love or 15-20 years for a fruit that turns out to be something you have no desire to eat and would rather cut it down and start over with something tasty? As fun as kwai muk is to say , I am not sure folks will be that stoked after tasting the fruit, if it can indeed be fruited in FL.

I can't imagine waiting so long, what a tease.  I hope I somehow have better luck with mine.

Better than 30 years for Paulista from seed!

Broken up pieces of packing foam as a planting medium is dirty dirty underhanded bizness right there. That really takes the cake for giving a big ol middle finger to your customers. That’s on par with the intentional mis label.

They have good deals but one time I went to visit the worker told me I couldn’t sample one of the white sapotes even though there was fruit falling to the ground rotting. I also bought a sri chompoo longan from them and it ended up dying. I went to pull it out of soil and I noticed instead of using perlite it was all broken up pieces of packing foam. I don’t trust anybody that does that. I’ve had that happen with an online order from another company too

Durian should top the list . You can die if you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time and get conked in the dome from a falling durian. Could happen with coconuts too but I think it’s less likely even though they are more widely planted.
Ackee is just a major F up if you die because you eat it before it yawns. There are plenty of poisonous plants you shouldn’t eat, ackee does not fall in this category , it’s a staple food like cassava , it’s cut and dry how to harvest safely.

Thanks Kevin. Just had to write all that because I care and want it to work out and have seen and discussed alot with others over the years about how best to make it work and feel good on both sides. It seem’s to be a tricky equation and things change over time. I think the best thing we can do either way is just keep planting and sharing the joy of rare fruits and do our best to keep the plantings going good and hope it works out for the best in the end. Your current garden is a gift to the new owners and hopefully valued as such.

They will flower and set fruit within months after grafting if the mother tree can handle it and your scion is from a fruiting tree.

I think that one was originally distributed by buttMuncha tropical via a fall scion sale. A forum search may pull some info.
Any info on the yucatan saramuyo?
I got a seedling from a friend but I don't know much about it.
Thanks!

It’s really not a mystery that mid to late April is the best time to graft Cherimoya as they come out of dormancy.
What is a mystery is the people with a 50% or higher success rate grafting Cherimoya any other time of the year. All I hear are crickets, no one is stepping up to say it’s successful, regardless of location.
I don’t care about being proven wrong, just want real experiences and data for the masses.

I thought it was sadly *especially family .
Well, the dream is over for me at this property. I can’t afford it, the gap is vast between the price and my wallet.

I will be creating a for sale thread soon, and there’s going to be some phenomenal stuff.

It is sad for me, after 10 years on the land, and pursuing this dream of fruit collecting on the property for more than half of it. My landlord was firm in saying she would never sell it, but ah well. Things change. It’s not the end for me with fruit, but I will probably have to accept apartment living and I won’t be able to hold onto anything much.

If people can help me by coming up and buying plants to go to good homes, I’d really appreciate that.

More info to come.

I've bounced around a few times in San Diego losing all my genetics. Rule of the game is trust no one except family..

Mark has worked some wonders , particularly with grafting. It’s pretty easy to get 100% takes with Cherimoya grafting by cleft grafts before they break bud in early April. Timing really helps. That is why I questioned if anyone has success this time of year as the night time temps are about to seriously drop, which as pointed out negatively affects sap flow.
Study Mark Lee. Man is a top G that times it right every year.

Not really, its the cold night time temps and damp. Most Thanksgiving, xmas and new years days I’ve experienced were in the 70’s , no wind beautiful beach days. It’s an interesting phenomenon.

I don’t think muntingia or miracle berry will be happy in your location.
Miracle berry are pretty demanding and hard to keep alive with their soil and water requirements and your location.

Mangosteens would be imported, same as back home. Fruit and spice park is well worth it if you have time. Robert is here is a fruity tourist attraction type fruit stand and is a good bet as wellbut nothing too uncommon.
